The Hostelz.com Review
Hostel 63 is a ten-minute walk from the Bayswater tube stop, and we found it difficult to find. We had two different addresses, and two different names (Hostel 63 and Princes Hostel).

The receptionists/staff are very friendly and helpful, and there is no curfew or lockout. Our room was very small (three bunk beds in a small room in the basement). It's right next to the kitchen/common room as well, so it's noisy when people are arguing at 2 a.m., and also if the TV is loud. Breakfast is pretty good -- orange juice, tea, instant coffee, UHT milk, bread, nutella, jam, and butter -- sometimes there's fruit.

The bathrooms are filthy – they don't seem to be cleaned, ever. The hostel had no hot water for the first two days we were there, but the shower is so disgusting that we didn't want to shower anyway. The room we had is mixed gender but there are separate male/female dorms available. There is a communal shower on the top floor but that floods and is also really dirty.

Though there seemed to be a lot of young travelers at the hostel, there isn't a very friendly atmosphere. The TV in the common room detracts from whatever chance you might have of making friends. At breakfast, instead of talking to each other, people just stare at the TV. The area that the hostel is in doesn't seem very nice, and there are quite a few weirdos. But Bayswater is nice, and seems quite lively at night. Kensington Gardens are a short walk away. We do not recommend this hostel, based on the dirtiness, the unfriendly atmosphere, and the dodgy area.

1 Horrible!
This was the worst hostel I went. broken showers with cold water, bedbugs infestation (really really itching), dirty sofas in the common room. Even the photographies that you can see in the website it's a fake, the common room is not like the photos (look the plants of the "common room" carefully -- it's photoshop!). I will never come back again.

1 Total dump! Filthy kitchen and bathrooms.
I backpacked through Europe for three weeks. This was absolutely the worst place ever. It was filthy and the bathroom was beyond unsanitary!

1 The worst ever!!
well for a start, the secure store is not secure, we ourselves found it wide open one day with people's belongings there for us to help ourselves, and the manager didn't even seem bothered when we told him of this. the other comments of the mice and the bedbugs obviously haven't been listened to because they are both evident. we came home one night to see two girls in reception rubbing themselves with cream for their bites, should have been a warning sign! As for drunk people, they were vomiting everywhere and when we complained to reception, nothing was done about it. also if they overbook the hostel, they put you at their worse "sister" hostel around the corner! just don't even bother paying for a place like this, you'd be better spending your money to go to a club then sleep in a park the next day!

1 Bedbug alert! (I'm not kidding you.) It certainly is the filthiest hostel I have ever stayed in, but the real nightmare of this place is its apparent bedbug infestation. My girlfriend and I stayed at a super cramped and dirty eight-person mixed dorm for two days. She got lucky and only got about ten bedbug bites on her hands, but I was bitten sixty-nine times (I counted) all over my body. If you have never been bitten by a bedbug before, and I for one haven't, I can tell you that they itch worse and last longer than mosquito bites. I had a dermatologist look at mine and she identified them as bedbug bites. Furthermore bedbugs are suspected of spreading diseases such as hepatitis and may cause allergic reactions and what's worse, you may end up bringing the infestation to your own home if a bug should end up in your bagpack! If you want to see how they look -- just make a google image search for "bedbug." The thing about bedbug bites is that the skin eruptions can be delayed as long as nine days, so you might not even put the two together if you stay at an infested place. Although we didn't actually see the pests (they only come out from nests inside the mattresses at night to suck your blood while you're sleeping) our itinerary made it unequivocally clear they came from Hostel 63. And considering the filthy state of this hostel, I'm not surprised. I'm just thankful I didn't wake up to see them crawl around in my bed in the middle of the night. My advice, stay far away from this hostel.
