Horrific
I would have given it no stars but system won't let me. didn't book the room beforehand. arrived there, knocked on the door (took us ages to find it, no sign outside) and asked for a private room with a double bed. paid 70 euros and were told room was not available right away because it had to be cleaned up. went for a walk around the town and came back to an empty room with three bunk beds and another single one. this was our "private room." it was absolutely filthy (floor, bed-sheets, full dustbins) together with the adjacent bathroom. took a shower in the morning, water didn't drain properly and it flooded the room. couldn't wait to leave, not before we gave the front-desk person a piece of our mind. in response, we got back a blank gaze. clearly didn't give a toss. didn't apologize or anything like that and wasn't the least impressed when we said we would give them a bad review. i'm sure there are better hostels than this in utrecht. for us this was the single worst experience in our tour of the NL. avoid by all means.

Extremely bad
This was certainly the worst hostel I've encountered in my life! I've stayed there for one night, end of March, and that was too much. First, it was very difficult to find it, no sign is displaced at the exterior marking it! Then, I asked for a double room and I have been given a bungalow, with seven beds inside. They were still working at that room, the floor was very dirty (I found empty yogurt pots on the floor) and cold, the bathroom was also very dirty, when I took a shower the water didn't drain and flooded all the room. One of the windows was broken and freezing air entered the room, just above my bed. In addition to all this, the big pinky room you see in the picture is located right behind the building, where they keep a huge laundry machine, which they turn at 7 o'clock in the morning. The staff certainly doesn't care of any of these. I definitely recommend you avoid this hostel!

Dirty and unfriendly!
Don't go to this Hostel! If you can, avoid it! This place is so dirty and the staff was very unfriendly! Additionally, when I came back someone was in my bed and I had to sleep somewhere else without any sheets!! I also needed to pay more than the offer on the Homepage. I stayed for three days and I paid 5 € more than they offer on their Homepage. Nearly everything they tell on the page is a lie! These many different instruments mean a Guitar, a nearly broken Piano (which sounds horrific), and some Drums. The food is poor, you can't eat it. I think if you do, you get ill for sure. Some people leave their food in the fridge so some food is starting getting alive there. The place is also very loud (but that is, because of the very good location, which is in the city -- very central!). It is hard to find, because there is only a little sticker on the bell. It seemed, that the stuff didn't care at all about the Hostel and the guests. The bathrooms are probably the most dirty I have ever seen (including the toilet!). If you can, you really should avoid this place. It is not a Hostel in my mind. I think the owner has just those rooms and she wants to squeeze some money out of it. The guests are partially strange but this may be something the hostel owner cannot influence.

Uncouth
The rooms were filthy and crowded. I woke up at 4:30 a.m. to find the room flooded and my suitcase soaked. The building is ready to topple down at any moment. Can't possibly be legal. The ceiling of our bathroom was covered in mould. The "free food" was a buffet of bread, suspicious cheese and sausages/patties of mystery meat. Only two of the computers worked and when I complained the fat, genderless, bearded thing was rude.

So so
I stayed Oct. 2005. free internet in common room. code for front door and room. front door was a pain the ass to get to open, even with the code. people weren't allowed to smoke inside so they sat on the balcony with the windows wide open, filling the place with smoke. too many stairs, no elevator considering it's on several floors. reception was confusing to find, they share the building. they were renovating a couple rooms and I don't think they had windows because the hallway was cold.

This is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in -- and I have stayed in a lot. Really unclean and all falling apart. Don't even think it is legally a hostel because there are no signs up outside. I payed for a private room and had a whole dorm room to myself. Friendly man at reception but I'm sure he went into my room -- probably to sniff my dirty underwear (creepy) -- and despite him warning me that I should lock my room he left it wide open! Really noisy outside too all night long. Oh and despite emailing and calling them they never actually confirmed my booking.

We did not get what we were promised over the Internet. There was an en suite shower room, but the shower was broken. The lady at reception (if you could call it that), was unfriendly and rude. The worst was the bed linen. The bed linen was clearly not removed after a few people slept in the room. The bed linen was stained and filthy. At 3 in the afternoon we were promised that the room would be cleaned. We returned at 9 at night and found the room in the same state as before. I have photos to prove that. Luckily a friendly lady was on duty and she agreed to return our money. I know it was not a hotel, but decent service should stay decent service, even in a youth hostel.

Fabulous! Free Internet! Free snacks all day long! Friendly staff and a social atmosphere make this my absolute favorite hostel ever. The shower on the first floor is the best. I have found that the better the "atmosphere" of a hostel; the less concerned I am with cleanliness. I don't remember if this was super clean or not but it was so charming and so fun that I was too busy enjoying myself to care!

I stayed here for three nights in May because of the reviews I had read. What a gyp!? Yeah, free food, not too much great stuff though, just tons of bread, and rarely any milk. When you get into the hostel, it smells horrible! The room was so crowded, and the bathrooms are sh*tty. Dirty hostel I'd say, not recommended! Yes, they have free Internet on many computers, but two out of the three days we were there, only one of the computers worked!!!

All the people staying here were very friendly, as was the staff. Great location in the city. Free food and computers make this the best hostel I've ever been too.

The beds were a bit used, but the sheets were very clean. This place is run by backpacking volunteers, so it's very laid back and friendly. The building has tons of personality, and it's relatively clean since they clean the floors, bathrooms, and kitchen every afternoon. Plus, the fully stocked fridge is great! (Cheeses, meats, fresh bread daily, etc. etc.)

Great hostel! The facilities are basic, but the atmosphere is the best. It's very relaxed and friendly, and it has a good lounge area. It's close to a good "coffee" shop for those interested. It's not easily visible unless you know the street name and number, so know where you're going. I'm definitely going back there if I'm in Utrecht. Great staff.

This is a very basic hostel, with free food all day, and free internet... It has a very lazy atmosphere. It's just a place to sleep and have a quiet chat.

I stayed there for five days. It's a beautiful place with nice people and good food for 16 euros a night.
