The Hostelz.com Review
HI - Omladinski Hostel - Youth Hostel Zadar has many names -- Youth Hostel Zadar, Borik Youth Hostel, and Omladinski Hostel Zadar. It's a little removed from the Old Town, but seems to be the only hostel open off-season.
The Location
The hostel is near the beach at Borik, but Old Town is a ten-minute bus ride or forty-five-minute walk away. From the bus/train station, take bus 5 (Puntamika) -- it stops almost in front of the hostel (ask the driver). You can also take bus 8, but it will likely make you get off a ten-minute walk away.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are well-kept, and most include a table/chairs and a sink/mirror. The new wing is brighter and has more recent furniture. Beds in the older building are small but reasonably comfortable. Some bathrooms are en-suite while others are shared in the hallway. The hostel boasts good water pressure and temperature.
Common Spaces
Like most HI hostels, this one lacks character and ambiance -- the only common room is the large breakfast room equipped with patio furniture. Aside from meeting people in your room, breakfast is pretty much your only other option.
Summary
Though it lacks in character, this place will do the trick if you're just looking for a cheap place to stay. Note that the reception staff isn't always punctual, so you might have to wait a bit for it to open.

There is good bus service to this place, something I didn't see in the description of this place. Even on Sundays there are regular buses. You can't miss your stop too easy, it's right in front of a marina just before the road turns a corner. I would say it is 15 minutes if that by bus, a short distance really. — Sandman (2006-09-17)

The hostel is situated at the seafront of the marina in Borik. Unlike what's mentioned in the owner's description, it's less than 4 km to the city center (I clocked it). There are no buses to that area of Borik, but who cares? You might as well get a bit of a sun tan walking to the city center. The hostel has nice and clean rooms, a friendly staff, a small outdoor stage and a bar that serves not only a great cappuccino but also a nice cold pivo [beer] just when you need it. There is also a small pebble beach at crawling distance from the hostel for a dip in the Adriatic or watching the stunning Croatian sunsets. Definitely recommended! — Reinier (2005-09-18)
