Not a travelers/young peoples hostel This place is not a proper hostel. The only people staying there were middle aged men, who seemed to be Canadian and from Toronto. They were all disheveled and shabby looking and sat on the porch drinking most of the time. This is in my opinion is a dangerous place for travelers, student backpackers. Especially women. I hope people will not stay here and that eventually this place will stop masquerading as a hostel. The owner or manager appeared to be like the other people staying there and spent his time with them on the porch. This place realistically is where bums, alcoholics, drug addicts stay. Like I said this is a very dangerous place. It is also very unhygienic and shabby. — Kevin , Ireland (2011-05-25)

It was a great place to stay I had a wonderful time and met some great people. — serena leonard , new zealand (2010-05-19)
Does not look good i have not been inside this "hostel," but i suggest travelers not stay here. it looks more like a rooming/flophouse than a place young people should stay when they are visiting toronto for the first time. the front porch is full of junk and it's a long walk to little italy. — resident of toronto , canada (2007-09-09)

Great place, I stay there sometimes. John the owner is a great human being. Recommended highly. — JUAN VARGAS , COSTA RICA (2007-05-14)

It was a great place. It is where I met my future wife. The staff were very helpful. Thanks John, Laire. — Mark Wade (2005-11-02)

It was passable, and served its purpose. — Rick Boyce (2005-08-19)
This was by far the grossest, filthiest hostel I've ever stayed in. It felt unsafe (the lock on our door had been busted out and then replaced). Every other person who stayed there was super creepy. There were bugs in our room and the mattresses were so disgusting we couldn't sleep. There was no fan or air conditioning and it felt really unsafe to open the windows. We were so grossed out after a night here we made reservations at another hostel sight unseen first thing the next morning. I urge any person thinking about staying here to consider sleeping in their car first. Yuck. — Anonymous (2005-07-02)

I've been there twice, and I found the atmosphere cozy and comfortable--and the management were very helpful. — Robert Fenning (2004-08-18)

The hostel was nice. The people were interesting and very friendly. I'd definitely recommend it to backpackers. — Anonymous (2004-08-17)
It was filthy, there was no security, anybody could walk in, and did.
The staff (all one of them) used to go missing for hours on end.
Anybody could come and go as they pleased. — John Tinker (2004-05-18)
