3 The owner was very friendly and picked us up from the train station so no lugging around the suitcases (bonus!). He explained the attractions of the area and gave us free bike hire, which was great for exploring the lake areas. The hostel itself was ok with free internet and kitchen facilities but the room was a little stuffy. The mattresses were dodgy and the bathroom had a weird smell.

1 Don't bother. We walked around Interlaken for almost two hours and could not find this place anywhere. Save time and energy and just go somewhere else.

5 We had an awesome time at the Mystery Hostel, and luckily enough, we ended up with the apartment for ten...for just us two! The kitchen has all the utensils, pots and pans that you need — plus coffee and other small, shareable groceries. The free bikes provided us with transportation, the Internet was free AND Guenther was such a great and helpful guy. We will definitely be calling him for a place to stay when we come back to Interlaken.

5 We arrived in the indicated check-in time. The staff picked us up, and informed us about all the tours in the area. We understand when the owner calls the police if people are staying illegally. I'd also feel unsafe if a guest checked in other people! I think the owner did the right thing! We enjoyed our stay. There is a fully-equipped kitchen, free coffee and free Internet (it's high-speed). We recommend this hostel to all backpackers.

1 Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with this "Mystery" Hostel, especially the attitude of the owner, which almost damaged our enjoyment of our trip. We arrived just half an hour later than the check-in time because we missed a train. Before that, in the afternoon, we called the owner and explained everything. At that time, he said it was no problem, and he would pick us up. But when we arrived at the station on a rainy night, we called him four times. We wanted to get the exact route to get to the hostel by ourselves. But the owner just refused to tell us. He said, "I am drinking beer. If you want to come, you can try." Finally, at midnight, we took a taxi and found the hostel, in a small corner without any signboard. The owner was not there at all. Another guest let us in, so that we could stay for one night in a mixed six-bed room (this room is actually a shared kitchen!). But, indeed, we had booked a double room. What was more dramatic, the next morning the owner came and abused the other guest who let us in. He locked us in the room, and threatened us. He said that if we didn't pay for the DOUBLE room, he would call the police. Because our friends were waiting for us and we had no time to argue with him, we just paid and left. When we complained about this hostel at the tourist information center, the clerk there said that this hostel often had problems with guests, and it's questionable whether the owner is doing business legally or not.To end this unpleasant story, we just admonish all our friends to be careful when choosing this hostel!!!

5 Our stay at this hostel was beyond what we could've hoped for. We got our own apartment! Plus, the owner is extraordinarily helpful (though maybe a little intimidating on first impression). He drove us all over town and helped us in any way that he could. I would highly suggest staying here. I can honestly say this was the best hostel experience I've had yet.

4 Interesting "hostel." This hostel was not what I expected from the website. There is no actual, typical hostel with check-in and reception desk. Instead, there are several properties around Interlaken that are rented to backpackers. Although this was different from our expectations, we were provided with a nice private flat with our own bathroom, television, computer, and microwave, which were all EXCELLENT and CLEAN. We were also given free bicycles and umbrellas to explore the village. The owner was very nice, and despite the unexpected situation, it was a nice experience.
