The Hostelz.com Review
Oasis Guesthouse is an central and affordable place to stay, whether for a couple of nights or a month or two. It's a good place to meet people, as it has some decent communal areas. There is a nice but basic rooftop area with views of the city center including the Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC), and TV and dining room with a kitchen. Many people return over and over again to the same hostel, so it's obviously a worthwhile experience. There are some negative reports about bedbugs and a self-proclaimed Punjabi manager that lies, hassles single women, and gets drunk during work hours.
The Location
The place is just a few steps south from the southern entrance of the China Town Market, on Petaling Street, right in the center of the old city center. It's five minutes' walk from either of the following train stations on the city network; Pasar Seni (LRT), Maharajalela (Monorail), Plaza Rakyat.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Most rooms and dorms share a couple of tiled bathrooms at the western end of each floor. A couple of rooms have private bathrooms. Toilets are all western-style, and the bathrooms are cleaned thoroughly every day. Sheets and towels are available upon request. The mattresses are soft to medium but there are sometimes problems with bedbugs.
Common Spaces
The reception area on the first floor has two computers with internet that can be used for a modest fee per hour (minimum thirty minutes). There is slow and sporadic Wi-Fi for free on every floor. The forth floor has a DVD player; sofas; tables; chairs; fridges; and a small kitchen with a water filter, a gas stove, and a sink. The included breakfast (white bread and cheap jam) is served here if you can wake up in time. There is also a rooftop terrace with nice views.
Summary
Avoid this place if you are a single woman, or if you care about bug-free rooms or a decent internet connection. If you just need a cheap place to sleep it's ok.
