Hostelz.com's Review
Centaur Inn is perfect if you want to be located near Hua Lamphong train station. It lacks in atmosphere; however, the dorm is massive, so meeting new people shouldn't be a problem. The area doesn't offer much, but you will get the feeling of being in the thick of Bangkok as opposed to a tourist area.

The Location

Firstly and most importantly, the location on the map is wrong and the address is very misleading due to the many little alleys around here. If coming from Hua Lamphong train station, first locate the river outside; once you have found this, follow the road that runs south alongside it. After two hundred meters, it will veer away from the river to the left. Keep following this road and after a hundred meters, you will see the road Thanon Surawong with a shop named Thai Rose Jewellery opposite. Head down here and just before you reach the flyover, you will see a large blue sign on your left saying "Rooms to Rent" over an alley. Follow this alley all the way down to reach the hostel.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Private rooms are pretty standard and there's one large dorm, which includes six large bunk beds, (they are pretty hard, though). It's clean, spacious, and has secure lockers. One negative is that there are no windows; it's well lit, but this can be a pain in the morning if someone wants to turn on all the lights at the crack of dawn. Bathrooms are very large and come with multiple showers, so queuing is never a problem; the showers are cold, though. There's plenty of fans along with air conditioning.

Common Spaces

The main common area is pretty poor, there's a small sofa and a couple of tables on the porch, but that's about it for somewhere to hang out. Strangely enough, they do have their own internal massage parlour. They sell drinks, beer, and light snacks and there's also three computers, which can be used for a small cost. Wi-Fi is strong throughout the building.

Summary

It's certainly not the best hostel, but it is great if you want to be away from the Koh San Road tourist area, be close to the train station to catch an early train, or crash after just getting off one. It's a no-frills, cheap and cheerful hostel.

3   Bottom Line -- Worth It It is not all too comfortable. The mattresses are terrible, and the air in the room is stale and stinky. But its a roof over your head, no one bothered me, and it was cheap relative to the surrounding area. I wouldn't stay for more of a day or two, but it's worth crashing at if money is an issue.  , age 28, U.S.A. ()
