Get to know Ravenna (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Ravenna.

Ravenna is a small Italian town situated in the Emilia-Romagna region. It has many classic Italian buildings, with many plazas, small cafes, and restaurants selling good, cheap coffee and Italian cuisine. The Basilica of San Vitale is one of the highlights of the town, with beautiful mosaics, as well as being a beautiful building within its own right. There is, however, a entrance fee to visit the Basilica. There are also many shops within the town; however, as in most towns within the region, many of the shops close between noon and 4 p.m.

Ravenna hostels, boutique hotels, and guesthouses are amongst some of the accommodation options within the town. All provide good services, and usually include a complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi, and tourist information. Staff at Ravenna hostels and hotels tend to speak a good level of English, however smaller guesthouses' staff may only speak Italian, and sometimes French. All accommodation is situated within the town center, and within walking distance of local shops, post office, restaurants, and cafes.

Ravenna is a lovely town to spending a few days relaxing and walking around the area. There are also a few hiking trails outside the town, as well as vineyards, wineries, and farms selling local produce. As in most Italian towns, effort has been made to increase the number of cycle routes and cycle-friendly roads, so commuting via bicycle is also an option. Enjoy the local Italian food and drink, and take in the beauties the town has to offer. Ravenna offers a good Italian experience, minus the influx of tourism that exists in many other nearby Italian towns and cities.
