Washington, D.C. is the capital of the US and more than 170 foreign embassies, and a good number of Washington DC hostels. It is a planned garden city designed by French-born architect Pierre Charles L’Enfant and consists of four boroughs. If you are looking for a Washington DC hostel, try to stay in Capitol Hill or Dupont Circle. These are the most convenient bases if you are mainly interested in sights like the White House, the Supreme Court, and the National Museum of Art since they are all clustered around Constitution Avenue. Dupont Circle is a cosmopolitan borough and home to a lot of embassies whereas Capitol Hill boasts with numerous architectural highlights. If you do not mind being a bit farther away from the center, Adams-Morgan is a very lively and multicultural neighborhood with lots of art galleries and international eateries.

Getting around in Washington is easy since there is a comprehensive public transport system in place. The three close-by airports (Ronald Reagan, Dulles International, and Baltimore Washington) can all be accessed by train or bus so it's easy to get to a hostel in Washington DC from any of the airports.

While in Washington, visit the White House and indulge yourself by visiting several of Washington’s top-notch museums, such as the National Gallery of Art, the National Air and Space Museum, or the Smithsonian Institution. Take a walk through the streets of Dupont Circle and admire the foreign embassies and discover stunning architecture at Capitol Hill. If you have time and aren't yet ready to return to your hostel, see a performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts at night.
