Get to know Fairy Hill (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Fairy Hill.

Fairy Hill is a tiny beachside village in Portland Parish on the eastern side of Jamaica. Together with the nearby villages of Frenchman’s Cove, Drapers, and Port Antonio, this little town provides tourists with a famous lagoon, beautiful beach along the Caribbean Sea, and all the other traits that have given it its nickname, the “Jamaican Riviera.”

Visitors can fly into Kingston Norman Manley International Airport. Once in Fairy Hill, travelers on a budget should be able to locate at least one hostel within the village. If not, Port Antonio may offer more hostel options. An alternative to a hostel stay would be a vacation rental within Fairy Hill. There are plenty of vacation houses and apartments to choose from in this coastal town. A couple of travelers or a group of three or more can share such a rental property for a week or more and end up paying less per person per night than the cost of a hostel bed.

Once you have secured your accommodations, you will not want to wait another minute to begin your fun under the Jamaican sun. A quick trip down a dirt road will bring you to the only truly public beach of the area, namely Winnifred Beach. Here you can purchase yummy food and drinks as music plays in the background.

Just a minute or so away, you will come across the world-renowned Blue Lagoon, or the “Blue Hole” as the locals affectionately refer to it. As you gaze at the water, you will see a full spectrum of blue to green colors span the lagoon due to the mix of freshwater from nearby springs to saltwater from the sea. The beautiful hues of the lagoon will invite you to dip in your toes or even take a boat ride over to Monkey Island or Cocktail Beach.

After you continue to explore the idyllic setting, visiting the Boston Bay, Long Bay, Nonsuch Caves, as well as exploring the Rio Grande Valley, you eventually will wish to collapse onto your hostel bed and get some beauty sleep before you start another sun-kissed day in this Jamaican paradise.
