Clean, Rustic, Friendly Staff, Beautiful Views
Shadowcliff is a very special place! The view of Grand Lake can be seen through the wall of windows that look out toward the lake. Shadowcliff has a separate men and women's hostel, lodge rooms that can accommodate up to six guests, and three charming cabins. The 4 acre property is bordered by the North Inlet Stream which you can hear rushing by. And there are two trailheads into Rocky Mountain National Park that are a quick five minute walk up the road. The community is a diverse mix of travelers from all over the world! There is a guest kitchen where guests can store and prepare food during their stay, and a shared dining room. Shadowcliff provides complimentary coffee and tea every morning for all guests. And if the chapel is available (not being rented by a group) it is the perfect place for a morning/evening yoga practice with out-of-this-world views! Highly recommend!
Best Place To Stay in Grand Lake!!!!!!
A friend invited me to stay here in a cabin in the 1980s and since then it has been my FAVORITE place to stay in Grand Lake. Where else can you get such an incredible view, especially for 4th of July fireworks. Plus hear a mountain stream and still be so close you can walk into town. Shadowcliff has it all including a very friendly staff.
Almost didn't go home
This place is amazing! It is absolutely beautiful, and have never been so relaxed in my entire life. In only two days I was so taken by this place that I stayed a third. Met great people, explored the trails, friendly staff. Every time I come to Colorado I make sure its still open. 20 years later, this place lights up every fiber of my being, and I remember the "heaven" like experience as if it was just yesterday! This year I will finally get to go back ...
Amazing setting and tranquil
I stayed here in 1990 or so and it was one of the better hostels I had stayed in across the US. It was such a nice area and it had a piano in the great room at the time. Overlooking the lake with flowers everywhere on the land surrounding it, I was truly happy to be there. Nearby there was a cowboy breakfast ride which I took advantage of. I wished I had a bicycle for this little western movie type town to bike around in. Very quaint and rustic area! Bathrooms were good and structure was solid, clean.
Driving up, we saw a coyote and that was just the beginning of our great Colorado adventure at this rustic lodge. The people were friendly, helpful, and so interesting to talk with. The view from the lodge porch overlooks the lake. There are walking trails surrounding the lodge and the town is very close. We had dinner at a great place with peanuts all over the floor. The chapel and campfire area are peaceful. I didn't want to leave. Rocky Mountain National Park is awe-inspiring and all of nature points to God. It's a fabulous place in our country and I recommend it to everyone!
This place is great. We were going to stay one night and stayed on an extra night because we enjoyed it so much. The view alone is worth the stay. The awesome dining room and common area are very comfortable and welcoming great for a rainy afternoon. And the people (staff and guests) were all great. It's walking distance from town with lots of options for canoeing, horseback riding, etc. And Rocky Mountain National Park is 1-1/2 miles away. The beds and the bathrooms are clean and serviceable. (If you want glamour, stay someplace else and pay five times as much.) Ask for a room in the Rempel Lodge (the main lodge) with a view of the lake. Spend a little time at the chapel (next door to the lodge) or, on a clear night, stargazing at the point. All awesome.
Beautiful location, incredibly friendly staff, great atmosphere -- the best hostel I've stayed in.
