Get to know Helsingborg (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Helsingborg.

Helsingborg is the second-largest city of the Scania region in southern Sweden, right behind Malmö. Located just a few of kilometres from Danish city of Helsingor, it was already an important settlement around the year one thousand, and as such it's one of the oldest cities in Sweden.

Although Helsingborg is often skipped by international travelers, it is a very interesting city, combining its rich history with modern aspects and scenic beaches. However, be prepared to not find very many Helsingborg hostel options. Your best bet is to look around the main train station or in the southern part of the city, close to the Rämlosa Station.

As Helsinborg has a solid local bus service, both options are a good starting point to visit the main sights of the city. Some you won't want to miss are the Helsingborg City Hall; the medieval tower Kärnan; Sofiero Castle, which sometimes also serves as a concert venue; the historic Harbor Square; and Tropikariet, an exotic indoor zoo. In case you are looking to relax, there are various beaches, restaurants, cultural facilities, and parks waiting to be visited. The city center is also well covered with numerous Wi-Fi spots, so you will not have any problems staying in touch with the online world or finding interesting places to visit on the go. And just in case you get bored, you can always hop a ferry to Helsingor and explore the famous Danish Renaissance castle Kronborg, better known as Elsinore from William Shakespeare's "Hamlet."
