Fes is a sprawling maze of a city and an absolutely unforgettable travel destination. About five hours south of Marrakesh and a couple of hours inland from the Atlantic coast, this beast of a city is just waiting to be explored. When visiting Fes, be prepared for one thing -- you will get lost! It's inevitable if you enter the monstrously huge Medina that you will become lost -- possibly for hours! -- so don't try and fight it, just go with it! For this reason alone, you should dedicate at least a couple of nights to exploring Fes because one day will barely scratch the surface of this giant.
Fes hostels are mainly located within the Medina (walled old town) but there are also many options outside the walls in the city itself. Hostels in Fes offer dorm rooms and private rooms and usually large common areas and sometimes great rooftops for relaxing and watching the craziness of the Medina below.
Some Fes hostels are within walking distance of bus and train stations, but Fes is a big city so make sure you know where you are going before you set off, because getting lost here with your luggage is not a fun experience! Consider taking a taxi if your hostel is outside the Medina walls or if within the Medina walls, make sure the driver drops you at the closest entry gate so you can find your way to the hostel.
There's plenty of great architecture and amazing mosques to see in Fes, but the main draw for travelers is the sprawling, mammoth markets where you can buy everything and anything and watch the locals go about their business in the insanity of the narrow streets full of unforgettable sights, sounds, and smells.
