This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Helsingør.

Helsingør, Denmark, is a quaint town about forty-five minutes north of Copenhagen on the train. It is quite an easy place to get to, with trains going from Copenhagen Central Station every twenty minutes. Your options for hostels in Helsingør, Denmark, will place you a few kilometres from the train station, so you may need to catch a local bus if you aren't keen on walking. Otherwise, everything else that you may want to see and do in Helsingør is within walking distance of each other.

Suggestions for spending your day include going to the Kronborg Castle to see the place where Shakespeare set the story of "Hamlet." There are also some spectacular views from here over the water to Sweden. Right next door to this is the Maritime Museum or Søfart. Afterward, stop off and grab a coffee at Culture Yard and check out what they have going on in there. It has great views to enjoy of the harbour while you drink, and a few smaller expos as well.

There are a couple of nice churches to visit around the town, and also another couple of smaller museums giving local history. Going for a walk around the smaller side streets will give you a good feel for some of the more traditional Danish architecture. The streets are quite narrow and quaint. Also keep your eyes peeled in the back streets for some of the murals that are painted on the sides of the buildings. They don't mention them in any guide books but they are cook to see and free. There is also the main walking street for shops and restaurants as well.

If you are wanting to hop over to Sweden, they run ferries over to the town of Helsingborg. Ask at the information desk near the train station how frequently they run and how much they cost. Otherwise, enjoy your stay in this lovely small town. You shouldn't need any more than a day to take in all of the attractions and ambiance.
