Great spot
We stayed at this hostel for my friends 21st in Kilkenny. Good room and hot showers. Would stay again???

Dog Pound!
There was not one Iota that I liked about this hostel, nor the staff! They were highly rude and extremely ignorant. I was located room one but was told after 11pm NOT to go to bed until after 12midnight. When I was allowed to go to bed he then removed me from room 1 and put me into room 4, with men! I had to sleep with three men!! No explanation to me was given, non whatsoever! He then lost the head with me because I could not remember the letters and numbers on the keypad on entering the house and bedroom. He was extremely angry with me. This made me feel uncomfortable and I because of this I did not feel at ease and was extremely nervous of this guy. He suggested to me that I should sleep out on the street. The smell was awful sleeping with three men in this room. Terrible. The extractor fan was not working in the bathroom. He also overcharged me. It is stated on his web site that it is only 17 - 18.50 euro's a night. He charged me 22euro for each night!!! I would not stay here ever again. He has lack of skills dealing with the public. He did nothing but shout and use foul language with me and in front of the other backpackers that were staying there. He never even asked me did I enjoy the concert, enjoy my stay at the dwelling, not even a goodbye, just a nod of the head and that was that. I got lost on the Saturday night and the Sunday night. I wasn't given the name of the hostel were I stayed and ended at the local Garda station asking for the name and address of where I was staying. I had the most appalling time staying their. It was my first and my last time staying in a place like this. If you were going to stay in a place like this a Dog Pound would be better, that way you would be treated as a human being and respected! I didn't get any of this!

Friendly Staff / Quiet Hostel
I've enjoyed my stay at MacGabhainns. I originally booked two nights but ended up staying a third. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. There are small safes in each room (not big enough for a pack, just essentials). During my stay here, all of the guests have been quiet and courteous. No crazy drunken people stumbling in at 3 in the morning like I experienced in Dublin. It's a little farther away than some of the other hostels and B&B's but I don't mind that at all. Everything in Kilkenny is within walking distance anyway.

Great!
It was a great location to everything in town. And when I first got in the door I was shown around, plus they gave me a map of Kilkenny and showed me how to get every where. I would go back in a second.
