Great social hostel, good facilities!
Great hostel with good staff and decent facilities. Outdoor patio/bar area is awesome and creates a very good social space for meeting new people in. Showers are on electric boiler so there's always hot water on-demand. Kitchen is well equipped. Dinning room and living/TV room are also very good. Location is 600-800m down the road from Westgate shopping center where you'll find a Poundland and Sainsbury. Only downsides are that they close the kitchen and the outdoor area at 11pm, and they're a bit strict about the 3pm check-in time. However these last 2 points should deter you from having an awesome stay.

So good!
This was really a great hostel to stay in! Friendly staff, clean hostel, free earplugs, free simple breakfast, free internet, nice common space, and fellow travelers were brilliant too. Used laundry service and it worked well too. No complaints at all, highly recommended!

Would definitely stay longer next time
They were great! The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Beds were very comfortable and the other residents were a lot of fun. I only stayed one night and kind of regret that I didn't stay longer. Definitely worth it.

Sick employees should not come to work!
In general, the hostel was good -- clean, friendly, and a decent price. My biggest frustration is that one of the staff people had a terrible cold or flu (she looked like she was about to pass out and cry the whole time we were there) and now I've just caught it as well after two nights here. I am pretty irritated about it because it will put a huge damper on my travel plans. If you work in a place where people are sleeping and eating, don't come to work with a high fever! Also, the shower pressure was pretty bad and the breakfast is just gross bleached wonder bread that no one should ever eat. Other than that, the place was decent.

March 2008. The staff is very nice, there are many lovely people as well there, but the quality of the hostel itself is very low. It has obviously been painted again not so long ago but on top of filth. The rooms are cleaned daily but since the building is quite old there are many little areas in them that need cleaning and the staff cannot do it all so in the end it's a bit grubby. Same for the showers and toilets, the minimum is done. The mattresses were very bad, I had to sleep at the end of the bed not to feel the hard springs coming out of it. And finally the hostel is just above a night club so you can hear the music until 3 a.m. Not so good when your plan wasn't to go clubbing.

It's a central hostel with moderate prices and friendly staff. The rooms are very modern with space and there's a cool terrace on the roof. Internet access is free, it's clean and comfy, there's a common room with loads of DVDs, and nice guests. It's a very good and pricey hostel.

Wonderful hostel with great manager!
Central Backpackers was definitely the best hostel I experienced in England. The price was not bad, but the real plus was the feel of the place. It isn't big -- probably fifty beds, and it is very easy to meet people there. The manager Mick goes out of his way to facilitate that. Great time -- if I didn't have a train ticket already booked I would have stayed longer!
