Hostel has BEDBUGS! Avoid at all costs!
I found bedbugs in my room. I saw three separate bugs -- reddish brown, oval shaped, disgusting -- crawling on the bed. When I noticed, I got out of bed and decided I'd rather not sleep at all. I stayed awake all night. I had prepaid for two nights, but decided to leave after only one night, obviously! At 8AM (well before the 10AM checkout time), I asked for a refund for the second night which I hadn't used. The kid at the front desk called the owner who denied the request. They refused to give a refund. I sent them an email explaining the situation (including the bedbugs) since I wasn't sure the owner was aware of the full situation. They just replied to me with "No refund." That's it. Not cool. Not professional. Any decent human would at least apologize for the bedbugs. Any ethical business owner would refund an unused night, let alone both nights, given the bedbugs. Don't stay here. It might be the cheapest option, but it's not worth it. The owner is apparently a complete jerk.

Great location, friendly owner, filthy bathrooms, terrible room
The location of kina is magnificent -- even the 186 steps aren't off putting but add to the adventure. Lovely relaxed entrance with tables chairs and beanbags on the grass. Very friendly operator, Luke. It went downhill from there. Our room shouldn't have been available for hire -- dirty, tiny and right next to the kitchen and on a shared wall with the taps which meant constant noise. Occupants partied loud and hard until lights out at 11 when things went quieter but the constant talk of people in the kitchen and the constant clanging of utensils and turning on/off of taps meant very little sleep. The cleanliness in the kitchen was very suspect but the tea towels were filthy and it felt really bad having to use them -- that I was simply loading the plates with germs. The bathrooms were too dirty for me to comfortably use with mouldy shower curtains, cobwebs and spiders on the windows and the shower recess was filthy as were the doors and door frames. The blinds in the bedrooms were filthy too. The other guests were friendly as was Luke who operates it but he needs to put a lot more effort into cleanliness. The pillow I couldn't use and the sofas in the lounge were filthy. There was a dirty plate from a previous guest under my bed. By far the worst kept hostel I've come across but with a great location.
Friendly staff, clean rooms but noisy premises and poor beds
Positives -- friendly and helpful staff, Great view, Reasonable prices, Clean rooms and beds, Clean modern toilets and showers, Good water pressure, Nice kitchen with all facilities. Negatives -- Beds were very hard and uncomfortable, just a low end foam mattress over wooden planks; Paperthin walls, heard people talking, sneezing and turning around in their beds through the walls. When people walked past in the corridor it sounded like a minor earthquake. The next door rooster(!) sets off at 4.30am and doesn't stop until after 7, so if you want a good night sleep you better go to bed at 8.30pm.
I've got to give this hostel a massive gee! The place is not all that but the governor is one of your own. He may be a raving iron but don't let that put you off, he's the most helpful chap I've ever met. Me and Val spent a few days here to get away from the chaos of the East End, Hoxton to be precise. This lovely man drove us around this island and took us to a lovely ruby house where me and Val talked about me getting into the straight life. He booked us a fishing trip where we met a nice old fellow called Whitey, who was a bit of a nuisance but a real stand-up chap. we had two wonderful nights in this hostel and this muggy straight didn't even ask for his wedge from us. Very nice of him, but I don't know how he expects to put steam on the table carrying on like that.
