Mavi Onur Guesthouse Reviews

Really great hostel like the family

Stayed for 3 nights and became part of family. Atmosphere is like totally family. And I really enjoyed for 3 days. Thanks to mavi onur hostel. If you are looking for cheap and kind hostel, This is the exact hostel you are looking for. But the best thing is location. This hostel is really located in hot spot.

8-day stay in 8-bed dorm

Location was great -- not on a super busy street, so it didn't feel overwhelming, but a very short walk to the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque, and the Hagia Sophia. The dorm room was airy, clean, and had a lovely balcony. Security cameras were a little creepy, but it made me feel like I didn't have to lock up my computer. Breakfast was solid and free, and it was a good chance to meet other people in the hostel. Staff was very friendly. Laundry service for a reasonable 10TL (washing only, dry by air). Some problems -- No wifi in the dorm room, so you had to climb down to the lobby; this also made the lobby more of a quiet "huddle over your smartphone" place instead of a "hang out and talk" place. Also, we stayed there in the summer and there were so, so many mosquitos. Overwhelming number of mosquitos. Lastly, minor complaint: the building doors are locked from the inside and out until around 7am each morning, which meant that I couldn't go take a dawn walk when I was jetlagged. Overall we had a great time, and I would definitely recommend this small, homey hostel.

Best hostel in Europe (and Asia)

The best thing about Mavi Onur is the people. I got to know both the owner and receptionist pretty well. Several guests, the receptionist, and I huddled in the lobby each evening and chatted about all kinds of topics. My friend and I stayed in a private room with two separate beds. The room was clean and quiet. The only downside about the room was that it could get rather cold in the winter months (I stayed here in mid-March). Although there was a space heater in the room, it only warmed up the area in its immediate vicinity as opposed to the whole room. In addition, the water heater was not powerful enough to sustain hot temperature beyond 5 minutes before graduating to lukewarm. But given the hospitable atmosphere, delightful breakfast in the balcony, and the great location, certain shortcomings can be overlooked. Highly recommended, especially in summer.

Cant wait to get back

We stayed at Mavi Onur Hotel for a week in the middle of Feb. 2008. The people in the hotel (two of them, Ilker, who owns the hotel and Yacine, who manages it during the evenings) are both splendid people, the likes of whom aren't the norm in the hotel trade. The rooms are decent, with air conditioning and hot water available in the bathrooms throughout the day. Breakfast is complimentary for houseguests. I would recommend the terrace for breakfast, or tea and snacks, which offers a brilliant view of the Marmara sea and the Blue Mosque. The hotel itself is located within walking distance from all that you would want to see in Istanbul. The Blue Mosque and Aya Sophya are within three hundred metres of the hotel, the Grand Bazar, and Spice Market are a bit further away, but still within walking distance. Ilker would be available during the day, and is a great help in coordinating/suggesting tours for guests. Yacine is great company whenever he is around and has gone out of his way to help me. I have spent hours talking to him after a tiring day of meandering through the streets of Istanbul. I would recommend this hotel to all for everything it has to offer. Location, people, cleanliness, view, and hospitality.

First off, let me just say that this was one of the best hostels we've stayed at in a long time. As experienced travelers, we have been to many hostels and the friendliness, cleanliness, and privacy offered allowed us to fully enjoy our stay in istanbul! The staff made us feel at home and knew almost everything about the city. On top of that, the three of us had our own private room and were free to do as we please. Highly recommended! breakfast is included.

I stayed seven days at Mavi onur hotel and really enjoyed it. The staff and also the owner are really friendly. It's very close to the main tourist area in the heart of Sulthanamet.

It was a great place to spend a few days in istanbul. The staff were great -- they were more than helpful with booking buses and tours. The breakfast was great and the terrace was nice. The rooms were big and fairly clean. A good place to spend a few nights in istanbul.

My husband and I stayed at Mavi Onur Hotel for five nights from 11th to 16th March 2007. Location is excellent, just seven minutes walk from main tourist sites, Sultanahmet Tram station, and reasonably priced restaurants. Considering the price you pay for a clean room with basic facilities, free breakfast, and excellent location, this place is a steal. Besides having a very pleasant owner, they provide you with good information about restaurants, transportation, and tourist sites. A good thing was they replied to all my queries in my emails to them weeks before my trip. Highly recommended!
