León, Mexico, is a big city in the Guanajuato state. Compared to the nearby cities like Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, it is relatively undiscovered by tourists. The architecture in the historical centre is pretty, there is a big pedestrian area, and the city is quite vibrant and also one of the safest big cities in Mexico. León is a place where you can go to escape the tourist crowds in the region, but still have a nice authentic Mexican experience.

Also the prices of services and products that are in particular popular among tourists may be cheaper in León than in other touristic places in Mexico, especially during holidays or festivals.

León is a pretty city and its Old Town is compact, but feels spacious and is worth spending a couple of days. However, if you are only after visiting (famous) landmarks, then you may just want to skip León and head straight to cities like Guanajuato. Pretty much all places of interest are within León’s Old Town, so this is also the best area to stay at a hostel in León, Mexico. The prices of hostels in León, Mexico, are quite competitive, so the location and your León, Mexico hostel’s facilities are the main criteria to examine when it comes to deciding on a hostel in León, Mexico.
