Get to know Winnipeg (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg, Manitoba's capital and one of the largest cities on the Canadian Parries, is host to bright diversity and a culture all its own. Visiting Downtown is a pleasant experience, and good for visiting museums or strolling along the river. There isn't too much going on Downtown, though, in terms of drinking and dining. For that, head to Corydon Avenue or soak up some culture in the Exchange District. Those who speak French can get some practice in the St. Boniface neighborhood, as this is home to the Franco-Manitobans. If this curious group isn't enough to spark your interest, maybe you'd be up for heading to the area anyhow to tour the Royal Canadian Mint.

Winnipeg hostels are limited, but beds are readily available except around major events and sports games. In that case it is better to be on the safe side and book your hostel well in advance. You can take your pick of staying right in a downtown building, or just outside of downtown in a house with a yard. In terms of location, all hostels in Winnipeg are right near downtown, a good location for visitors, even those without a car. Getting around by car in Winnipeg is easy, as is using public transportation. The local bus maps are hard to read but there are lots of other riders to ask and bus stops are well signed, so don't be shy if trying to find your way.

A tip: watch the Film "My Winnipeg" to get in the spirit of town.
