Fortaleza, the fifth-biggest city in Brazil, is located in the northeast part of the country; and is the capital of the state of Ceara. Fortaleza, one of the most-visited cities in Brazil, has a lot to offer -– beautiful beaches, amazing food, party lifestyle, busy nightlife, and friendly people. In the city center of Fortaleza, you will find a lot of cafes, restaurants, shops and gift/souvenir shops -- you can buy different pieces of art crafts on a budget.
During your trip you should visit the main attractions in the city center -– Fortaleza Cathedral, Fortaleza da Nossa Senhora da Assuncao, and the public markets and fairs. If you have time, visit the areas like Jericoacoara and Canoa Quebrada (two of the best beaches in this state) -– you can go by car or join a tour.
While you are staying in Fortaleza, don't miss the chance to eat the famous Brazilian food, “rodizio” -- an all-you-can-eat of barbecue meat (picanha and maminha are the best-known in Brazil), rice with black beans, “farofa,” salads, pastas, cheese bread, fruit, and all kind of desserts. Of course this dinner has to be accompanied by the famous caipirinha (made with cachaca) or caipiroska (made with vodka) -– in Brazil, you have also the chance to have the caipifruta, a drink with cachaca and mango, passionfruit, pineapple, or any other fruit.
