Fulpmes is a village in the Stubai Valley (Stubaital) of Tyrol state, Austria. Covering an area of six-and-a-half square miles (about seventeen square kilometers) and housing around 4,250 residents, this small town offers a huge appeal to families in search of a fun winter vacation.
The majority of vacationers are attracted by the family-oriented Schlick 2000. This compact ski resort provides the size, comfort level, and variety necessary to entertain the different ages and skill levels of family members who wish to enjoy their holiday together. With mostly white, red, and blue pistes along with a few black ones, skiers of varying experience levels can feel comfortable yet also challenged on the slopes. For the tiny novices, there is a wonderful ski school providing lessons on magic carpets, getting the newcomers off to a confident and safe start. Cable cars deliver the guests to either the top or the children’s area. There are no long lines to contend with, and when all the physical exertion brings on hunger pangs, there are several restaurants available to satisfy just about any appetite. Guests can indulge in a leisurely meal and a warm drink as their thoughts get lost in the beautiful background music and gorgeous views.
When vacationers need a diversion from the slopes, they can head over to the Eisarena Flumes for some slithery fun on the ice rink. With tunes playing loudly, visitors can enjoy skating around, practicing maneuvers and tricks, or playing a round of ice hockey. Once the skaters feel frozen to the core, they can warm up with a glass of gluehwein. This beverage is a concoction of red wine, cinnamon, citrus, sugar and other spices, served warm or hot and meant to make the drinker’s core glow with warmth in the cold winter season.
Once bedtime has arrived, tourists can check into accommodations right there in Fulpmes. There are only a couple of budget options available, so it’s a good idea to ask around for a hostel or economical guesthouse (gasthaus). Once they have located a hostel or other budget-friendly lodging, guests can expect a relaxed, welcoming vibe. They even might be able to enjoy amenities such as a hot tub or sauna. Some Fulpmes hostels also offer inexpensive day trips to explore the region.
To get around the area, there are buses traveling to and from the ski resort. To visit nearby villages, tourists can use the Stubaitalbahn (Stubai Valley Railway), a tramway stretching about eleven miles (eighteen kilometers) from Fulpmes to Innsbruck.
