El Bolsón is a city of Patagonia Argentina, in the southwest region of the Province of Río Negro. About twenty thousand inhabitants populate this beautiful valley, which is surrounded by forests, lakes, rivers, and the stunning presence of the Andes. In the nineties, El Bolsón was declared an “Ecological Community” because of the interest of its people to protect and preserve the natural environment.
El Bolsón is located one hundred and twenty kilometers south of Bariloche, one of the most important Argentinean touristic cities. It is seven kilometers from the international Chilean border and just under two thousand kilometers from Buenos Aires City.
The valley of El Bolsón can be reached via several bus companies, which operate in the area, mainly leaving from Bariloche. Accessing the community by car is another possibility, which also gives the opportunity to enjoy the scenery of the magnificence of the Andean Mountain Range. Drivers must be aware that most of the way to El Bolsón is through a gravel road. The city also has a small airport for regional flights.
El Bolsón can be enjoyed all year long. Winter activities in El Bolsón are numerous; skiing and snowboarding at the ski center of Cerro Perito Moreno are considered the most popular activities. The center offers all the services required for the tourists and there is a shelter with a restaurant and a bar. Summer options include walks by the several paths and roads to Cerro Piltriquitrón or Cerro Amigo and rafting in Río Azul and Río Manso. An exclusive attraction of the region is crossing the Andes to Chile by boat through a small river born in Puelo Lake.
