El Tarter is really close to the French border and as such, it definitely has a French feel to it: it is a quiet little place with many cute bars and restaurants offering a relaxing coffee on their patio. It is an excellent place if you are into hiking, as there are many hiking tracks starting just outside of the village, including the GRP that takes you all around the country in a little less than a week. In the winter, the profile of the place changes suddenly, as it turns into a popular skiing resort with many bars and restaurants nicely lit up and operating until the late hours.
El Tarter has its own hostel, which is the ideal place for you if you are looking to relax and enjoy nature. The traditional architecture, the impressive location, and the tastefully decorated interior all contribute to an amazing experience. Although the rates are quite pricey at this hostel, you definitely will not regret your choice of staying here. However, if you are careful with your budget, you can base yourself in the hostel in Andorra la Vella and come here on a daytrip.
