I've been in worse but not in South Africa. This place is dirty, dodgy and depressing. Had it not been for its proximity to the university I would have stayed elsewhere. It's not to be recommended.

I used to live and work at this place and I know the Irish owner. He is actually very nice. And the dogs make up for it. This place is safer than ninety percent of other Pretoria hostels due to its location and security measures. It's also closest to Loftus rugby stadium it's just round corner! :) And it does have a kitchen and little lockers for rent for stuff like passports.

There are much better places to stay in Pretoria. In fact, we moved away from this place after a couple of days. The management is not nice at all. There's cheating in the prices. (Every person pays differently for many different reasons. I will not go into details.) Try any other place.

Description

Word of Mouth Backpackers is a small and personal hostel, centrally located in the city. We offer dorm beds, single, double and triple rooms, most with comfy matrasses and duck down pillows. We have ADSL internet and a public phone. We also have lock-up safes, luggage storage. Over the last 10 years we have earned the reputation as one of the most secure hostels in Africa!

You can book a variety of exciting day trips, tours and overland adventures while relaxing in the sun. We can also secure cheap rental cars for you. Should you need anything else, all you have to do is ask and we will shop around for the best deals for you. I'll be surprised if we actually have to, after a decade we know what's cooking!

We are located about 10 minutes drive away from the bus/train station, and close to all the shops, restaurants, banks and other amenities. We offer reasonably priced airport shuttles during office hours. We don't offer free pick-ups from the bus/train station.

All the staff at Word of Mouth speak fluent English and are very friendly and helpful. We look forward to having you stay with us soon!

Location

We are between Jorissen and Walker streets; and Bourke and Johnston streets. If driving from the airport it's easy. Take the road to Pretoria when exiting the airport; take the Sunnyside off ramp just after the Fountains; pass Unisa & 3rd traffic light from there turn right in Rissik st; go straight 7 blocks and turn left in Vos st; go down 1 block - we're on the corner - 430 Reitz street. Apologies for not uploading a map - it will hopefully as soon as i can. Have to make it first! From Jo'burg take the Ben Schoeman Highway; then the Monument turn off; right and the left towards city; and then pass Unisa like above. From Witbank/KNP just past the US Embassy turn left in Eastwood, past Loftus Versveld and right at the funny triangle - into Jorissen; left at the shops at Johnston; 1st street right at Reitz; 3 blocks and we're on the corner of Vos. From Sun City through town; right at Hamilton; becomes Troy; pass Esselen; left in Kotze; 3 blocks; right in Bourke; 2 blocks and left in Reitz - 3 blocks.
