Misty River Lodge Reviews

Misty River Lodge, this cozy place, offers both hostel- and lodge-like amenities depending on your budget and preferences; it's located in the beautiful, less touristy area of the British Columbia Kootenay Rockies.

The Location

The location is within close proximity to the main attraction of the town, which is the hot springs of Radium Village. The hot springs itself can be quite crowded at certain times. The hostel/lodge is located near a busy road on a hilltop, so during peak season, you may hear cars, people, and animals but during low season, it's as silent as being in the wilderness.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms includes dorm-style units holding five or six beds, family rooms, or private/double rooms. Private/double and family rooms offers en suite kitchen, eating area, and washrooms. These rooms are located on the left side of the building, further away from the reception and common areas. The rooms are not modern, as they resemble lodge-style living in the mountains, but they are sufficient and clean. The beds are comfortable and sheets are clean. Each dormitory room has its own washroom and shower and includes pillows, sheets, and cases.

The washroom in the Whitetail suite is a little small, but is sufficient for the suggested occupancy of three individuals. The toilet at the time had a weak flush but the water pressure and temperature are fine. The room is quite small, so the third bed is right by the kitchen. There is a TV in the room and good Wi-Fi reception is reached from this suite. The kitchen has a mini fridge, two stovetop burners for cooking, microwave, pots, pans, and cutlery for cooking/eating.

Common Spaces

The common spaces includes a nice patio area with tables and a barbeque overlooking the mountains. The common living room and kitchen is quite small, as there are only two or three dormitory rooms and the rest with en suite amenities. Continental breakfast could be included for fee.

Summary

Overall, this stay adds a touch of comfort and coziness in a small village by the mountains and a hot spring for a good budget price. The hosts are helpful and kind and there is plenty of parking available.

Clean, Quiet, Great scenery, Great Hosts

I recently stayed at this hostel (Feb/2010). I was amazed at how clean it was, including dorms, bathrooms, kitchen. Spotless in fact! I read the guest books from the last 10 years and I know this is a common thought. There is lots to see and do around Radium, but this is NOT a party type hostel. You will likely meet friendly, international travelers here. If you want peace and quiet, come in the off-season, and you may have the place to yourself. The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it! Awesome outdoor deck overlooking the mountains!!

There are so many nice things to say about this hostel, it is hard to think of a place to start. It is very easy to find and very close to the hot springs. The owners were extremely hospitable -- they answered all our questions, provided extra towels, and even allowed us to park our bike by the front door. Lastly the facilities are clean and nice with an excellent view of the nearby mountains.

My friend and I travelled to Radium Hot Springs in August last year. It is by far the best hostel I have ever stayed at in all my years of travelling. Geoff and Gaby are two of the most hospitable and down to earth hosts that I have ever met. They made my friend and I feel very welcome to their place. I highly recommend this place to stay when you are around Radium Hot Springs. It is like a home away from home. I will be going back again this year, and always telling peole of how a wonderful time I had.
