Great place to stay, good value, and fantastic staff
This hostel is in a convenient location about ten minutes walk from temple bar. staff were really friendly and helpful. The included breakfast included hot drinks, juice, toast, cereal, yogurt, boiled eggs and fruit! Room was clean and had a private bathroom. I was able to store my luggage for a day free of charge, while exploring the city. Great spot, would stay there again.
The Location
Abraham House is located on a popular hostel street in Dublin. It is a short walk from the bus station and a 10 minute walk to Temple Bar and other tourist attractions. The area is nice and well lit at night. There are two supermarkets within easy walking distance. A free walking tour even picks up from this hostel each morning before showing you the sights of Dublin.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel is very large with 5 floors. The stairs can be be tiring to climb, especially with luggage, but the rooms are nice. The rooms and bathrooms are cleaned daily with locking doors. The bathroom includes a toilet, basin, shower and two clothes hooks. The shower is amazing! High pressure and hot! The heating in the hostel is also very good. You would never know it was cold outside because they keep the heating roaring through the night.
Common Spaces
There is a large kitchen on the bottom floor with many cooking facilities including microwaves, stoves and toasters. Coffee, tea and a kettle are also always available. There is a large seating area in the kitchen with a large flat screen tv. This is a very nice, social area! The common room is comparatively small however there are random couches on each floor. Wifi is only available in the kitchen and common room and not in the dorm rooms. This is inconvenient! The breakfast provided is very good. It includes cereal, yoghurt, tin fruit, eggs, toast and juice, coffee or tea. It is self service and runs until 10.30am which is good after a night out.
Summary
Given the cheap price of this hostel, the quality exceeds expectations. The staff are always friendly and happy to have conversations and help you whenever needed. There is always someone at the reception desk and the security is tops. There was a nice variety of people from all cultures at this hostel and there is an option to stay in single sex dorm rooms if preferred.
We had a great time at this hostel and kept extending the date we were leaving at. Large hostels can sometimes be unfriendly, but we felt very comfortable here. Great value for money!
Nickel & Dime You
Yes, they're clean and location is good, but they'll annoy you by making you move everyday, the breakfast sucks ass, and they'll nickel & dime you.
Great Location!
Good location, clean, free breakfast and wi-fi and all rooms en suites.
Great hostel! Very clean, and excellent location. Secure as there is a key for the room, and safety deposit boxes available for rent. There is also always someone working at the front desk. Kitchen has many supplies. Breakfast was just a bagel, coffee, and juice, but was free, so can't complain! Our room was on the fourth floor and there is no elevator, so it was quite the workout, but our room was clean and bright. Bathroom is cleaned daily by the staff, and was by far the cleanest one out of all of the hostels I have stayed in. Would come back here again.
Located in an area close to the main bus stop and full of cheap accommodation options, Abraham House doesn't stand out until you check in. The hostel is very easy to find and only a ten-minute, leisurely walk to O'Connell Street.
With rooms ranging from a private double room to sixteen-bed dormitories, you have a lot to choose from. All rooms have an ensuite bathroom, which is very clean despite the sometimes-funky smell -- the lack of any real ventilation causes the mustiness. Our eight-bed dorm had plenty of natural light and ventilation (except in the bathroom), comfortable bunk beds, and enough space for everyone's backpacks.
Located in an typical old house, Abraham House is actually two connected houses, four-stories high including the basement. There is no lift. In the basement you will find a completely equipped (and clean) kitchen and plenty of seating space for you to enjoy your meal or to watch TV. On the ground floor is the reception, packed with pamphlets about the local area, phones for calling internationally, computers with internet access (for which they charge), and some rooms.
As you head up the stairs you will find rooms at every landing. Halfway up the first flight of steps you can connect to the next building, which houses several private rooms. Continue up to the first floor for the dormitories. This repeats for the next floor. At each landing you will find great little mini-lounge areas, perfect for chilling and chatting in a small group.
I was in this hostel a few years ago. it was alright then. But this year (spring 2006) the place was rotten. the toilets were disgusting (we went to the next pub instead), the sink was out of the wall, the showers were filthy, staff was unfriendly. I'll never go there again.
I have been in this hostel only four nights and I think I won't remember it as the best hostel I have ever been in but not even the worst. It's ten minutes walk to city centre, and really near to Connolly station and to the central bus station (this is a realy great convenience!). So this is an hostel where you can calmly stay in. Negatives include entry only by buzzing and showing ID, which sounds ok, except half the time I was ignored!
