Sheila's Hostel Reviews

A really clean hostel, brightly coloured with a great large kitchen and seating area. Sheila's is a 10-minute walk North of the bus station. The tall smokestack is a good waypoint for finding the way. Although a bit antiquated, the hostel is very clean.

The hostel is spread over a few floors so get in early so you do not need to climb to many steps. And be sure to search around for the best bathrooms! The lower level restroom facilities tend to be better than the upper levels. The kitchen has everything one would ever need. Plenty of pots, pans, and counter space for when it gets busy.

The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. There is a great TV room with a huge 34cm TV and plenty of comfy chairs to sit on. But when you are in Cork the last thing you should do is watch TV when the pubs are all so close.

This hostel is used by some of the tour companies passing through Cork so it can get full very quickly. The dorm rooms all have new beds that are very comfortable but the rooms can get a little crowded if everybody tries to stand at the same time. The rooms are fairly average with the usual hostel musty smell, but for the price, you can't complain.

Fairly good

Reception staff fine. Bathroom fine. Dorm space tight, lack of storage and coat hooks to hang jackets etc.

Kitchen was goodish, but please supply CLEAN tea towels for drying dishes - this is so important.

One other thing......prices seem to increase the closer you are to the arrival date. If you have definite dates book in advance.

Friendly staff, good location

I learned so much about Irish history from talking to the staff here. Clean and comfortable. Stayed four days, wished I could've stayed longer. Only complaint is walking up the hill to the hostel.

Good hostel with an excellent location

The kitchen was really spacious and nice. There's also a TV in the common room. The wifi works really well, and the bathrooms are pretty clean. Very close the city and VERY easy to find from the bus station (there's signs and everything once you cross the river). Great host as well!

Good staff with good facilities

The staff is really nice, we are a group of four people traveling together but booked separately, she helped us to change to same room. Besides, she is really willing to help with providing us useful information and suggestions for transportation and place to go. Facilities are clean, room a bit tiny. But is fine still.

Sheila's is everything you need. Friendly and knowledgeable staff during the day -- a bit sullen at night, but they do their jobs well. Clean, convenient, and comfortable.

Pretty good

beds were fine, security is great, reception people are very helpful and friendly, location is good. The Wi-Fi only works in the internet room in front of the hostel, not in your rooms. You have to pay $3 for breakfast, which isn't much. The doors slam shut. Overall, it was fine. I would probably stay here again.

great place, awesome staff, with stuff for sale in reception (because nothing in reland is open after 11). computers are pricey though. everything was super clean. just beware the showers -- they have high pressure, and are cold at first, so the first time you push the button, wrap the shower curtain around you so you stay dry, then the pipes will prime with warm water. price was okay but i think maybe it was a scam. "oh we don't have any of those rooms available anymore, but you can get this for 3 euro more." they were upselling i thought.

Love that dirty water...

Sheila's Hostel Reviews from the Web

Great room 115 bunk 4 great natural ventilation easy going room mates good atmosphere keep it up !

Overall, great vibe and friendly/helpful staff. The hostel itself is very warm and fun to explore or hang out in. Centrally located and easily accessible to city center, on a side street up a hill.

The bathroom soap dispensers barely function, so consider bringing your own handsoap.

If you are booking one of the eight-bed dorms, be prepared. There is nowhere to store your things safely or comfortably, the rooms are so cramped you cannot move if more than one other person is in the room. Theyre also directly above the front door, so expect a lot of noise outside. The bathrooms on the dorm side have only one sink and a narrow strip to stand in to wait for the toilet or brush your teeth, so theyre best to avoid around checkout time. If you cant handle smelling another persons body odour/feet/wet clothes (it is Ireland, were all wet), dont book one of the larger dorm roomsmeaning the ones with 4 bunks that are really only adequately sized for 3 (6beds) at most. Really, I get that prices in Ireland have increased a lot since the pandemic but consider what you can actually tolerate before booking, especially if you are one to prioritize your personal comfort over other peoples ability to sleep through the night :) Like were in a hostel dorm, we all smell bad, if you want to wake other people up to be mad about it, dont book this dorm?

Additionally, you get a large sheet on a p** proof plastic camping mattress (rather than a fitted sheet, as many other hostels here have) that is folded into your duvet during changeover, so expect to sleep directly on the mattress if you are in any way a restless sleeper. You will hear your dorm mates moving in the night with the sound of plastic crinkling, and the lack of ventilation in the summer might mean everyone is hot and moving around a lot in the night.

Comparable hostels in other Irish cities include breakfast in the price, this one is four euro for continental.

Beautiful views.

Great place to stay. In a great part of cork. Staff is really inviting. And the amenities are plentiful and efficient

I booked this hostel as a place to lay the head after a night out in Cork. It was perfect for this. It's a short walk from the central night life area. There is no problem arriving late with the 24 hour reception. The kitchen is closed late at night which is inconvenient when needing water for the head. Although they do sell water at reception. The price point was great, and saved at least 100 compared to the cheapest hotel.

The space is a bit too small.

It's ok is probably the most accurate description. It's clean, the location is great and the staff are fine. They need at least tiny lockers in the room for valuables such as passport etc as there was no security in the room at all. It wasn't really a fun hostel when I was there8 and beds are packed into rooms. A fine but largely forgettable hostel for a couple of nights.

Solid stay. Met my needs. A cool place.

As far as hostels go, Sheilas was pretty nice. The rooms were accessed by key card, so we felt pretty safe. The view from our room was nice and our stay was comfortable.

A hostel is a hostel and it was worth it to have a place to stay but the atmosphere was a bit odd. There were guests there that definitely werent travelers. And some of the facilities were out of order like laundry. I went down to grab breakfast at 10 one day and they told me no even though there was a ton of stuff left.

Great spot for accomodations in Cork at a very reasonable price.

The room felt super tight, there are no lockers in the room. There was no atmosphere during the day I was there at least. You can leave your luggage in the common area.

Considering how many people use the hostel , its absolutely spotlessly clean , excellent for a short stay . First impressions , entrance hall and reception v clean , staff excellent . Rooms v clean and functional. Overall v impressed .

Good price for private room but very hot in summer

Decent hostel. It was clean and sheets were changed everyday, however its annoying that there are no lockers in the rooms. Power outlets beside the bed are a plus, but beds are tiny and not the most comfortable. The room was really crowded as well. Good crowd.

Nice big hostel with common areas to meet other travellers. Very tiny dorm.

I have stayed at this hostel several times this year and every room was clean, the staff are very helpful and friendly, the facilities are well maintained and the kitchen has professional equipment. There are noisy fans running outside some rooms during the day and evening so earplugs are a good idea, as they are in hostels anyway. The ensuete rooms are clean and functional. Close to town and shops, the station is about 10 or 15 minutes walk. I would highly reccomended this hostel to anyone.

Too many people in a very small room room. No space for your own. No fresh sir in bedroom. No privaty at all.

Beds were very comfy. Would of liked if it was a bit cheaper paid 90 for a twin room with no bathroom

Great value and comfortable and clean

Located well for exploring irk city on foot

Very basic hostel. Location is really good in the city centre. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Expensive for what it was but at the minute everything is expensive in Ireland.

Shower and bathroom facilities were very good and clean.

I was in an 8 bed dorm, beds are very close together but comfy. Got about 2 out of 8 hours sleep with the other guests coming in an out right trough the night but that's not the hostels fault.

If I return, it will be a private or smaller dorm.
