Trang An Ao Dai Homestay is the most remarkably clean and tidy place you will find in the region, which feels like you have just stepped inside a museum! Traditional clothes, impressive vases, and old instruments are on display in the common areas, which will make you feel like you are in a boutique hotel, not a hostel!
The Location
While the name of the hostel might give you the impression that it is located in Trang An, it is in fact in Ninh Binh. However, it is only a short stroll away from the gate to the national park; even if you want to get to the nicer areas within there, you will somehow have to overcome a minimum of nine kilometers' distance, so do not be disappointed if you wake up in a concrete jungle in the mornings instead of being surrounded by the beautiful natural scenery! Moreover, while it is located in a big town, there are few amenities around. The nearest supermarket, for example, is about three kilometres from here! If you pick this hostel, it is better if you rent a vehicle to make your stay easier.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Although the hostel is quite small, there are several different dorm rooms; all of them have a low number of beds and are quite cosy. The bunk beds come with curtains, which do a pretty good job at keeping the light out and you have electronic plugs next to your bed. You also get some motivational quotes above your bed, which are rather lamely attached to the wall and will keep falling down on you. Otherwise, at this hostel, there is a lot of attention to detail -- your room will have everything you might need, from a hair dryer to different gels and creams. However, the Wi-Fi might not work inside your room.
Common Spaces
It is a pleasure to wander around the property, looking at all the objects that are exhibited as decoration. There is classical music playing and you will likely feel that you are a guest in a local aristocrat’s home. On the bottom floor, there is a kitchen that you are welcome to use. In the mornings, free breakfast is served here, which is just an egg with some bread, but it is still a nice addition to the package.
Summary
While from the outside, this hostel is so unremarkable that you are likely to just walk right past it, once you step inside, you will be welcomed by a cosy and highly sophisticated atmosphere. The hostel is top class, even if it is further from the national park than you might expect!
