The Hostelz.com Review

If you want to feel like a carefree kid who has just walked into a candy shop then you should definitely book your stay at Hahaland, because besides a cozy place to sleep and nice breakfast, this place offers the most fun games you will find around!

The Location

Phong Nha is tiny, so it really does not matter where you book your accommodation and while Hahaland is a bit outside the center, it only means an extra ten minutes of walk. It is one of the first places you will see as you arrive in the town if you turn off the bridge and and drive to the left. It is in a very nice location right on the river with excellent views over the iconic mountains, even if it is obvious that in a few years, all the empty plots of land around it will be bought up and built on. While getting around is really not hard on foot, to compensate for the distance from the centre, the hostel offers bikes for rent for free! These are really nice modern bikes, but there are only six of them and they are given out on a first-come, first-served basis, so you will have to get up early if you would like one!

Rooms and Bathrooms

The bamboo bungalow that hosts the hostel has quite a few rooms, half of which are dorms and half of which are private rooms. The dorms have bunks inside, but these are not like any other bunks you have ever seen before -- the lower one is just a mattress on the floor while the upper one is a mattress on a metal platform. While they do look quite uncomfortable at first sight, they are in fact not that bad. The rooms are en suite and have two bathrooms which are small and basic but clean. The only real issue with the dorms is that if you close the door from the outside, it will be impossible to open it from the inside and vice versa.

Common Spaces

The common areas are amazing, they feel like a huge playground for adults! As the hostel is right next to the river, which is safe to swim in, the owners have installed a number of water games on the shore, including a huge water slide and a swing from which you can jump straight into the water. You can also use the floating tubes for free, but if you are not a fan of the water, there will be plenty of other things for you to do as there is also a huge badminton court and a number of hammocks and an amazing terrace overlooking the mountains.

Hahaland did not receive its name by coincidence -- it is an incredibly fun place to stay where your adrenaline will fly high all the time! Just make sure you actually go out sightseeing as well and do not get caught up with all the fun at the hostel!
