When you take into consideration the Café downstairs, the hostel itself and the location, Good Vibes hostel is an all-round excellent choice.

The Location

This hostel is located in the main, bigger alley that runs through Varanasi. It is easy to find and situated near some great coffee shops and bakeries. The outside is painted yellow, which stands out from the surrounding buildings. It’s a short, two-hundred-meter or three-minute walk to the nearest Ghat. The building is old, but then so is every other building in Varanasi.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Our eight-bed dorm room is up two flights of stairs. The room is of a fair size and leaves enough space for guests to move around the room. The lockers are under the bottom bunk and lock with a key. They are huge and can easily accommodate a large backpack. The room has a few windows, which let in the sun and fresh air. There is no air conditioner, but each bed is equipped with a fan. We didn’t even use the fan, as the window was right next to the bed and the fresh air was much better. Each bed has a reading light and two electric sockets. The beds are sturdy metal frame, the pillow and mattress are comfortable and the blanket is large enough to cover yourself from top to bottom. If you require some alone time, you can close the privacy curtain of the bed.

The bathroom is right outside the dorm room. There are three toilets and three showers, which are shared between two dorm rooms; that doesn’t seem to be a problem though. We didn’t have to wait for the use of any of the facilities. The bathroom area does get dirty very quickly and could do with more regular cleaning. This hostel does not provide toiletries, but you can rent a towel. Please note that this means there is no toilet paper either.

Common Spaces

There is a large, carpeted common room with many seating areas and tables. It’s a comfortable place to chill and meet new friends after a long day of exploring. If you’re a musician or a wannabe musician, there is even a guitar for you to pick on. Right on the top of the building is a large rooftop sun terrace. The views are beautiful from up there and it would have been great if the hostel provided seating for the guests. At night you can do some star gazing too. If you’re hungry, just head on down to the café on the ground floor. They make the best food and the prices are good. The reception is in the café.

Summary

This is a great hostel, and although the Wi-Fi is not that great, we would still recommend it. The atmosphere is friendly, happy, and chilled. This is a great place to make new friends and wind down at the end of a long day.

Location

• Our address: D-26/4, Narad ghat, Bengali tola, Varanasi.
• Recommended mode of transport: Private tuk-tuk or Uber/Ola cabs.
• LANDMARK: Ask the driver to drop at 'Bengali tola school'. The hostel is just 5 minutes opposite to the school through the narrow alley ways, where no big vehicles can go in. If you get lost in the street which is a cool experience, follow the hostel sign boards or ask people for way to Narad ghat or just call us on phone, we'd be happy to help :)
• Bus station- We are 6.4 kms away from the bus station (also called Cantt bus stand). A private tuk-tuk or an Uber/ola cab ride would cost around 150-200 rupees.
• Train stations: There are two main train stations in the city. Varanasi junction railway station is 5.7 kms away and Manduadih railway station is 5.6 kms away from the hostel. A private tuk-tuk or an Uber/ola cab ride would cost around 150-200 rupees.
• Airport: The Lal Bahadur Shastri airport is located on the outskirts of the city, 25 kms away from the hostel. A private tuk-tuk or an Uber/ola cab ride would cost around 500-650 rupees.
