La Albahaca Hostel is a warm and friendly hostel that's like a home away from home.
The Location
La Albahaca Hostel is located on on the hillside of the small town of Tilcara. It is approximately a ten- to fifteen-minute walk from the bus station and is only a five-minute walk down the street to the town centre of the plaza where you will find restaurants, small tiendas, and cash machines close by. It is also a short walk from some of the town's major attractions.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms all have single dorm beds instead of bunk beds, and they are decently comfortable. As it is a small hostel, there won't be an excess of people staying here, so there is plenty of space. They have two bathrooms, both of which are well cleaned and have good showers with hot water. As there aren't too many people here, as the hostel is small, the two bathrooms is usually sufficient for everybody's needs.
Common Spaces
The main common area here is the kitchen area. When walking through the front door, you enter into a large open space that serves as a dining room and a kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking and in the mornings they serve free breakfasts of toast and juice here.
The large table in the middle of the room serves as a gathering place for everyone in the hostel to meet and hang out. In this area they also have a piano, ukulele, and guitars to play if you are musically inclined. This is the best spot in the hostel to get Wi-Fi, as it can sometimes be patchy in the rooms. There is a patio out front with chairs to sit on and enjoy some sun, and there's a garden as well that you can enjoy.

Toni, who runs this hostel, is a very friendly, knowledgeable, and relaxed person. He is incredibly helpful with loads of information on what to see and do in the area, costs, and how to get there; the service is unsurpassable. It is like being welcomed into a home, and this is the feeling you get as you sit around the kitchen table and chat with people. This is definitely recommended as a place to stay and explore the wonders of the region of Tilcara.
