Cat Hostel Krakow is a mediocre hostel in an excellent location. The building is clean and bright, and the hostel is on the second floor of the building, with no lift. Check-in process is very simple, and there are no additional deposits upon check-in. Guests are free to leave their luggage in the common area. There are no keys; guest are provided with codes for two doors (front door of building and front door of hostel).
Cat Hostel is located across the street from Planty Krakowskie, near the tram, close to several cafes, and very close to the Old Town. This location is excellent -- very close to center and about a fifteen-minute walk to the bus/train station. This location is central but far away from hordes of tourists.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The six-bed dorm has plenty of outlets, although none are designated per bed, and a small lamp, chair, and table for the room. There is no locked storage provided but there are shared closets. There is no way to lock the dorm room from the outside. Bunk beds are wooden, with mattresses so thin and old that you can feel the wooden slats underneath them. If you sit up in the bed, the mattress will actually slide through the slats. The beds are very uncomfortable. Beds are already made, with a towel for each guest. The sheets are actually quite soft and nice. There is also a full-length mirror in the dorm.
There are two full baths for all the guests. Both bathrooms are clean and spacious enough. Showers have hot water and good water pressure. There is no soap in the shower but there is soap at the sink. Bathrooms have hairdryers and even hair-straightening irons.
There is a large kitchen with an electric stovetop. Free coffee and tea are provided and there are plates and cups and cutlery. The kitchen is really the only common space available and seats about six people.
Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel on two different networks and is free and quite good.
This is definitely a budget option that attracts some strange characters. However, it is a good, clean, cheap option if you can sleep in less-than-ideal conditions. It's got a really great location, simple check-in and checkout process, and it's pretty bare-bones, but you get what you pay for.
