La Escondida Hostel is a great hostel that's chilled and friendly, but is also connected to their sister hostel, which can get a little more rowdy!
The Location
This hostel is located in the centre of the town, but it is far from the beach. You are located around a twenty-minute walk from the bus station and super close to a few large supermarkets and some local restaurants, but to reach any of the beaches you are a minimum twenty-minute walk away or an inexpensive taxi ride. The hostel does provide free bikes, so you can ride there in less time.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorms are spacious and comfy, and the beds have their own curtains for some added privacy. You can have a dorm with air conditioning that works during the evening or that just has a fan. If you are in an air- conditioned dorm, you still have a fan to get you through the day. There are lockers underneath the beds -- you just need your own lock.
Some of the dorms have an en suite bathroom inside, but there is also a shared bathroom with a couple of toilets and showers as well as a basin area outside. They are clean and have plenty of space to hang your things and place your items while showering.
Common Spaces
This hostel has it all when it comes to common space -- you have a fully stocked kitchen, and a dining area as well as a cove with a couch where you can curl up and watch Netflix. But more than that, this hostel is joined with another hostel, Puerto Dreams, which is more of a party hostel. You can just follow the stairs and you will end up at their bar. A lot of people will stay here to get their solid night's sleep and then just head to Puerto Dreams in the evening.
This hostel also does a group activity every evening, from free salsa lessons to volleyball on the beach; it is perfect if you are a solo traveler or just love being social. They also provide a very tasty breakfast up at the bar.
Summary
It is the perfect hostel! The volunteers who run the place are super welcoming and friendly. The free breakfast is delicious and the dorms are spacious and comfortable. The only downside is the distance from the beach.
