The Review

Art-Hostel is located in Irkutsk, also called the Paris of Siberia. Maybe the name is slightly too much, but the city seems to attract many tourists, as it is the starting point for tours to Baikal Lake. It's also a main stop on the Trans-Siberian, and many people continue to Mongolia after Irkutsk, so there is a lot of movement of tourists.

The Location

Art-Hostel is located around the center of the city, two stops away on the bus to the train station. Everything is within walking distance and the center offers many shops, restaurants, and attractions to visit. It is easy to find it, as there are signs of where the hostel is, and the owner helps on the phone in case you can’t find it.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel is quite small and there are not many rooms, but it provides both dorms and privates. There are two toilets and two showers, separated from each other. Mattresses are comfortable and beds don’t make any noise, so it provides a good quality of sleep. The cleaning lady does a great job; rooms, bathrooms, and common areas are well maintained and clean. There are lockers available without needing to use your own padlock, and shower have hot and abundant water.

Common Spaces

There is a small area in front of the reception with a TV and two sofas. Drinkable water is provided free of charge. There is a kitchen that can be used by guests. Cooking equipment is good and quite new. There are big fridges available and a microwave as well. There is also the possibility to do laundry and iron clothes. The vibe is not very exciting, as guests seem to just use the hostel as a place to sleep. No activities or tours are organized, so it is quite hard to meet fellow travelers. The owner works at the hostel and speaks some English, which is a big plus in Siberia. She is also very helpful and gives free maps of the city.

It is a very nice place for a few nights before leaving to Baikal or Mongolia. It doesn't have a fun environment, but it provides a good sleep, everything is clean, and the owner is nice and helpful. Plus, the kitchen allows you to cook and save money on food.
