Boogalow Hostel had only been open for a couple of weeks by the time we got to stay here, and boy are we grateful it's around! Wow, we have no words! It's the first real backpacker hostel in the city and it's just by the sea. The view is just stunning!
The hostel is literally by the beach and just a few minutes' walk from the cathedral and the Old City -- you can't beat that location really. Just wait until you see the view! We are so impressed. Everything important is either around or within a short walking distance. If you're walking on the Camino de Santiago, be aware that finding the hostel is rather easy -- it's on the way, but the way out of Gijon is known to be a bit tricky, so follow the signs carefully and don't be afraid to ask for directions from locals!
Rooms and Bathrooms
Just like everything else in this hostel, the rooms and bathrooms are state of the art -- clean, beautiful, well designed, and convenient. It seems like they thought of every single detail, including personal power outlets, shelves, and little pockets for little devices. The sheets are soft and smell good, and they provide towels free of charge -- what a treat! And don't even get us started with the bathrooms -- there are toiletries, bathtubs, and plenty of room. It feels like a cute little hotel.
There is so much space to hang out! There is a cozy living room with instruments, games, and books, plus there's lots of people to chat with and a little balcony for smoking. There is a fantastic kitchen and a very pampering breakfast -- there is even Nutella and peanut butter as well as fruits, cereal, and real coffee. The best part is that there are no designated hours for breakfast, so you can have it anytime! If only we could stay here and just relax forever! The owner is very sweet and friendly too. There is free Wi-Fi and it works great.
We still can't decide if this place feels a bit like a hotel, or as if you're just visiting a very fancy friend's place, but either way, we felt like home and had a great stay. We highly recommend this place!
