Good Bar
The bar downstairs was nice and I loved the people working there. They were super nice. They even give you a free drink for each night that you stay with them. Please take note that this hostel is located in the Red Light District of Zurich. I had no idea until I arrived and felt a little uncomfortable with my surroundings. It is nice during the day but it kind of gets to be a little unsafe for a woman to be walking home alone at night.
Stay here if you dont want any sleep and a cold shower for 43 CHF
The service is moderately friendly and the wifi is excellent. However, if you are here to sleep and not party you should stay elsewhere as the hostel becomes a nightclub on the ground floor at night. You won't get any sleep until 03:00 when the club closes. You will greeted in the morning by chatty roommates and cold showers at 07:00. don't bother asking for a partial refund from their indifferent manager, Lukas, who simply grunts, "it's a hostel."
Good for short term stay
I've seen better quality in Zurich, but overall it was acceptable. The staff is friendly, and the breakfast was decent. The price is high compared to the rest of Switzerland, but that is true for Zurich overall.
Very nice and inviting
Just stayed overnight, but felt very welcome. It was clean and comfortable would recommend it to friends.
Best hostel I stayed at in for quiet a while! Mega central, with a bar downstairs, beautiful meeting spot for travelers and super friendly stuff. When Zri go Otter.
Everything is good except the bar downstairs has noisy at night.
Staff were so kind and friendly, fixed the bedroom fan as soon as we asked. Basic breakfast included was nice. Do laundry before you go as it is a tad pricey. Mini fridge and table in the dorm rooms. Spacious lockers. Wonderful location.
Cheapest option you will find in Zurich and a great location but kitchen facilities were lacking and the rooms were a little dirty and crammed.
Okay hostel, probably as good as you get in Zurich.
This hostel is right in the city center and a good location to walk around. Everyone was friendly and the areas were fairly clean. The breakfast is pretty much just cereal and toast. My main complaint was it was incredibly hot. I understand they dont have AC but one of the two fans in our room was broken and that would have helped a lot.
I had a great time because I was lucky to meet some nice people. However, the hostel itself was not that great. The staff was fairly rude to people checking in and the kitchen facilities consisted of a microwave, toaster oven, and a water kettle. Also, it gets hot at night.
The location is perfect. However, it's a very old dark building so it doesn't look too clean. No AC but rooms have fans but still feels very hot during the summer. Overall, it was an ok stay but I've stayed at better and way cheaper.
A very convenient place to stay for a backpacker in the old town. It was a 20 minute walk from the main station.
Like always, the perfect Location for visiting Zurich. Very central, friendly staff. Will definitely stay there again. Lots of Restaurants nearby.
This hostel is on the very low end of hostels. The dorm i was in was very messy and there was quite a lot of dust on the floor. The guy in the reception was stressed and rude when I was 5 minutes late on checkout (10am) and said "no one is following the rules around here". The bunk beds are unstable and don't offer any privacy or places to keep your charging devices. I imagine this is what people that hates hostels think of when they say they hate hostels.
I greatly enjoyed my time at the Old Town Hostel! The spaces are very clean and the staff is kind and helpful! The location is perfect for seeing the city and is very central. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to travel to Zurich!
Very laid back. I liked how it was a smaller place so it was simple. I had good experiences here, so Id recommend.
The hostel was great! Nice & clean, has a common room with a fridge for you to store some stuff which is great when youre trying not to spend too much on eating out. It was definitely always a vibe! The people were really cool and it was easy to talk & make friends. The only issue I had was that the beds were squeaky (noisy) which isnt the most light-sleeper friendly.
Had a great time at Oldtown Hostel Otter! The staff was the sweetest and we had such a good time with other travelers. Great environment to meet people over the free breakfast. No AC, so very hot, but other than that super clean. Always felt safe, stayed in a 6 female room.
Floors are dirty. Sheets had holes in them everywhere and the bathroom showers were kind of grimy. No access to the elevator on the bottom floor after bar hours, which sucked for my traveling companion who was disabled. Location was okay. Little costly overall, but okay for the area. Beds feel like they were going to fall apart and were quite unstable. No A/C so room was stuffy and hot.
I saw the staff yelling at a customer once. Staff seemed stressed and not very friendly. The location makes up for it however. Its worth it to be right in the center of the city.
This was a fine hostel. It is quite overpriced, but that is the nature of Switzerland. I would have wished for the price that it would be more modern and updated, with better beds and pillows. Also for the price, I did not prefer to make my own bed on arrival and departure. The free breakfast was nice, but it would have been great if there was some fresh fruit or cheeses. Overall a good hostel for Switzerland in a great location!
Not the cleanest place, by far. Dorms are too cramped and out-dated. For the price, the place needs better bunch beds. Cheap metal ones that wake other person up when getting in and out. Maybe dont cramp as much people intk each dorm as well. A good modern paint job throughout the whole place would really make it nicer. Felt like i stayed in a Chernobyl day care center, 30 years after being abandoned
Super fun hostel with clean bathrooms and good beds.
