Zostel Alleppey joins many of the other hostels in the Zostel chain throughout India. Zostel Alleppey is located next to the beach at the end of town. The hostel has an amazing rooftop common area that provides a very social atmosphere, allowing travelers to get to know one another.

The Location

The hostel is right on the beach in Alleppey, more than two kilometers from the train station and more than three kilometers from the bus station. It takes about forty-five minutes to walk from the bus station and thirty minutes to walk from the train station, or you can take one of the numerous tuk-tuks to the hostel. There are several places to eat nearby the hostel or you can get a cheap tuk-tuk into town to enjoy more food options there. The hostel is in a great location to arrange day trips to the backwaters (at the time of writing, the tours offered by the hostel are the cheapest in the area but great quality) or to arrange a houseboat.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel has four air-conditioned dorm rooms, each accommodating six people. One of the dorms is female-only and each dorm has an en suite bathroom. The hostel also has private rooms with shared bathrooms. There are lockers available in the dorms for small valuables, but guests but provide their own locks. The beds are very comfortable and quiet, even when someone is climbing into or out of the top bunk. The bathrooms are extremely clean and there are hot water showers, although it is normally hot enough to not need it.

Common Spaces

The hostel has two main common areas where travelers are able to hang out and socialize. There is Wi-Fi available in the common spaces outside of the dorm rooms. The hostel has a beautiful rooftop common area that has a great breeze for hot days and evenings, with sitting areas and a few hammocks to relax.

Summary

This hostel is a relaxed but sociable hostel with a very friendly atmosphere. It is a great place for solo travelers hoping to meet others, and even to meet fellow travelers keen to share a houseboat on the backwaters. The rooftop area has a great sea breeze, comfy hammocks, and plenty of games, and is the best place to hang out. The rooms and bathrooms are extremely clean and the beds are very comfortable.
