Hostel La Antigua Capsula has a very cool and relaxed vibe with a rustic community feel.
The Location
Hostel La Antigua Capsula is located within only a short walking distance of the walled city of Cartegena in the neighbourhood of Getsemani. There are supermarkets close by if you want to cook and a load of restaurants in the area. You can catch the local bus to and from the main bus terminal, a five- to ten-minute walk from the hostel (you may have to ask the local police officers where and how).
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms here are gloriously conditioned to help you sleep in the relentless heat of Cartegena. The beds are three-tiered bunks, each with its own light and power outlet for charging electronics. The beds themselves are comfortable, and they give you sheets and blankets in case you get too hot or cold. Lockers are also assigned to each bed so you can keep all of your stuff in those. They are quite sizable so you should be able to fit most luggage in there,
There is a bathroom inside one of the dormitories, but the other showers and toilets are outside in the courtyard area. For privacy, they have metal cubicle set up under the tree, and it is quite lovely and rustic. There is also a large sink area with a mirror to brush teeth and perform other basic day-to-day hygiene.
Common Spaces
There is the main central courtyard here, which is where everyone hangs out. It has a jacuzzi in the corner that you can use if you ask, a small kitchenette for cooking, and tables and chairs under the tree. Off this room, there is another room that is filled with books, a guitar, and keyboard and other entertainment. There is a small outdoor kitchenette for guest use, and they have two large beer fridges where you can buy your beers from them. They also serve breakfast here in the mornings for a price. The rooftop terrace is small but used by smokers for beers and cigarettes. It is also good for hanging and drying wet clothes.
Out the front of the hostel behind reception is another lounge-style area with a big television where you can relax in the air conditioning and watch a movie.
Summary
This is a great hostel and the owners are just fabulous. They are so nice and accommodating for anything you may need during your stay. They speak English and Spanish here, so there is no stress about communicating and getting what you need. It is a relatively new hostel at the time of writing and the feel to the place is really, really nice. The people that it attracts are those of a good character. We cannot recommend this hostel enough!

Location
• From the airport, guests can take a taxi (8000 pesos from the street in front of the airport or 13000 from the airport itself, $3-4.50US) or walk out to the main street and take the TransCaribe bus (2100) pesos.
• The bus leaves you off in Centro Cartagena in front of the main docks where boats leave daily for Playa Blanca and the Rosario Islands. From the Bus Terminal Transporte, you can take a bus to the Centro bus stop as well. Take the Alimentador bus from the TransCaribe bus stop. You will need to buy a access card with at least 2500 pesos on it in in the Bus Terminal. The bus stops across the street. Just ask people where the trans Caribe bus stop to the El Portal station is. At El portal station change buses from within the stop to a Centro bus. And get off at the Centro bus stop. It is a 10-12 block walk from the Centro bus stop to the hostel or a 8000 peso taxi ride (about $2.80 US).
• If you are walking it is easier to just ask directions to Calle Larga, Getsemani. A reference point that most know is "El Dadys" on a corner two doors and a street crossing away from the Hostel's entrance. People are very helpful here.
• There are several parking lots near the property, Centro Comercial Getsemani lot is about three blocks and the Centro Convencion lot is one short block on Avenida Arsenal. There is another lot near Plaza Trinidad. Prices range from 3000 pesos to 4400 pesos per hour.
