Lub d Cambodia Siem Reap is a very social, busy, co-working hostel, with many guests. The atmosphere is so wonderful that it almost feels as though we're at a resort.
The Location
The location is great, as it's away from the busy hustle and bustle of the center of town. There are many street food stalls, restaurants, and shops in the vicinity. Although, the hostel has a cafe that makes very delicious food. Everything is walking distance from here. The center of town is just on the other side of the river, which is a short walk away.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Our ten-bed dorm room is large and spacious. The lockers are next to the door and both lockers and door are slightly partitioned off from the dorm room. The lockers are huge, and because everyone stores their luggage in them, the dorm room is free of backpacks and suitcases, making for a pleasant change to the usual messy rooms. You need your own padlock for the lockers. Above each locker is a rail with two coat hangers. The beds are cubicle style, with comfortable mattresses and pillows. The top bunk bed is reached with stairs, not with a ladder. The air conditioning is controlled by the guests. Each bed is equipped with a blanket, towel, USB port, electrical socket, and bright reading light. There is also a little safety box at the bed, with a mirror front; again, you need your own padlock. This is a very small safety box that is just meant for passport, wallet, or phone. It's very convenient having this on the inside of the cubicle.
The separate male and female bathrooms are down the corridor. In the bathroom is a washing machine and tumble dryer that works with coins. The bathroom is equipped with lots of mirrors, three toilets, and three showers. The showers are large and a curtain separates the dressing space from the shower space. There is a long towel rail, soap, and shampoo dispenser. The bathrooms are clean, neat, and spacious. In the middle of the long corridor is a cold-water dispenser.
Common Spaces
Upon check-in we were provided with a keycard that opens the door the sleeping quarters, as well as our dorm room. The reception area is to the far back of the ground floor area. The staff are friendly and happy to help with any request or enquiry. The focus of the ground-floor common area is the crystal-clear swimming pool. To the one side of the pool is a cafe where they serve delicious food and to the other side is a bar. Every day, there are different events to attend. They have a movie theatre and an air-conditioned chill-out/cool-down room with a TV. There is a tour desk where we have arranged our temple tours for the next week and we can find out any other information about Siem Reap. There is an abundance of seating, depending on whether you want to drink, eat, swim, work, or just relax and chat. To the one side of the reception is a games area. There is a pool table, foosball table, and board games. The social area is open plan but under cover, with many fans to keep the space cool. There is always music playing in this area.
Summary
With all the movement and goings on in this place, it feels more like a resort than a hostel. We recommend this hostel as great value for money and definitely a place you should visit when in Siem Reap.
