Sputnik Hostel Kharkiv is a small hostel in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The hostel opened within a year of this review and offers a high quality for a good price. It is certainly one of the best choices if you are looking for a hostel in Kharkiv.
The Location
Sputnik is located in the centre, but not in the heart, of Kharkiv; nonetheless, the location is good. Within ten minutes' walking, you will find yourself on Kharkiv’s main street. A big market and twenty-four-hour supermarket are also only about ten minutes' walking, but in a different direction. This is also where you can find the closest metro station. A tram stop is only two minutes from the hostel; with this tram, you can reach the railway station, but you might as well just walk for ten minutes. The hostel’s entrance is not marked, so it is important to come well prepared to the hostel. When you reach the building you must call number three on the building’s phone system and the door will be opened for you. Be aware that this is not mentioned on most booking websites! The hostel is located on the second floor.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Sputnik is a small hostel -- there are only three dorm rooms and no private rooms. Rooms are spacious and bright. Each bunk bed has a curtain for more privacy, an individual plug, and reading light. Underneath the beds there is a spacious locker where you can even fit your bag; however, they are short one locker in each room. Slippers and a towels are also supplied.
There are two nice bathrooms, which is normally enough to avoid morning queues. Bathrooms are nice and spacious. The shower has a good pressure and is connected to central heating instead of a boiler.
Common Spaces
The hostel is basically a small corridor with three rooms on the right side, as seen from the entrance. At the entrance there is a reception and at the back there is a small common area. There is a couch, a flat-screen TV, and a small desk with stools and plugs. Additionally, there is a well-equipped kitchen with stools and a small but room-wide desk where you can sit and eat. It should be noted that drinking alcohol in this hostel is strictly forbidden and that you will need to go out to a bar to have a beer. Most guests are Ukrainian and Russian and it may be hard to find people speaking English in the common areas. Most staff, however, speak English.

Sputnik Hostel Kharkiv is a high-quality hostel, offering a higher quality than most other hostels in Kharkiv and even in all of Ukraine. You may be able to find a slightly cheaper hostel in Kharkiv, but Sputnik is great value for money!

• Minibus 115e to stop Gagarin Avenue, change to minibus 11e and go to the stop 'Lopanskaya Embankment', go to the intersection and turn to the left (at the corner will be Oranta), and go straight to a four-storey building.
