Runasimi Hostel Mancora

The Review

Runasimi Hostel Mancora is a small, quiet hostel in central Máncora. Due to its main road location, it lacks the relaxed beach vibe that many Máncora hostels have, but has the advantage of being close to shops, restaurants, and nightlife.

The Location

The hostel is located directly on the main road, in walking distance of most bus stops. It’s a busy road, so the hostel certainly doesn’t have the relaxed beachfront vibe that you get at some other Máncora hostels, but the beach is easily reachable via a five-minute walk through town. The street is full of shops, restaurants, and street stalls and there are usually people around day or night. Loki and other party locations are just a few minutes' walk away.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Runasimi Hostel has both private and dorm rooms. The rooms are fairly small but are clean and cheerful. The six-bed dorm room has windows allowing in natural light and small lockers available for valuables. There is good security: all the rooms are lockable and staff will lock the dorm room when there is nobody there.

Rooms have en suite bathrooms, which are in good condition and are kept clean.

Common Spaces

There is not a lot of indoor common space -- just a small, open-plan room housing the reception, communal kitchen and what appears to be a bar (although this was not open during our stay). The kitchen is only big enough for a couple of people to use at once, but the hostel is rarely crowded. There are two outdoor terraces with seats, tables, and hammocks that look out over the main road. The hostel has a strange policy of charging guests a small fee if they wish to continue using the facilities (like the kitchen) after their checkout time.

Nearby party hostels may attract a bigger crowd, but you’re more likely to get a good night’s sleep at Runasimi Hostel! This is a great choice if you want to stay in the centre of town close to shops and nightlife, but the main road location is not ideal if you want a relaxed beachfront vibe.

Runasimi is a friendly and cozy backpacker hostel in the centre of Mancora. The Location Runasimi is located on Avenida de Piura (Panamerican Highway) right in the centre of Mancora. It is very easy to find and has the name printed on the outside in big letters. It is about 100m from the main beach and next door to a range of bars and restaurants to suit every budget. The only negative about the location is that it is right by the main highway running through the town, so the outside terraces can get very dusty, though these areas are cleaned regularly by the staff. Rooms and Bathrooms The hostel offers both private rooms and dorms. The price for a private double room in March 2017 was PEN 20 per person and a dorm PEN 15. There is no soap or toilet paper in the private rooms but both are available in the shared bathroom for the dorms. Unfortunately there is only one bathroom available for guests staying in dorms, so it can get a bit crowded at times. The showers have good water pressure and hot water. Electric fans are available (and necessary) for the rooms, which have no air conditioning. Common Spaces There is a small shared kitchen, which has no luxuries but does have everything necessary to cook. There are also two terraces on two different levels, with plenty of chairs and two hammocks. There are also a few tables. The general atmosphere in the common spaces is quiet, cosy, friendly and warm. This is not a party hostel but there are plenty of travellers to chat and make friends with. The decor of the hostel is impressive considering the price of rooms - dark wood, white fabrics, plants, etc. Summary Overall, this hostel offers very good value for money in Mancora. The location is central, though a bit dusty because of the main highway right next to it. The staff are friendly and relaxed, and free drinking water is available to guests! You are free to bring your own alcohol in, and smoking is permitted in all outside areas. The hostel seems to cater mostly to South American travellers, though there are also a number of Europeans and North Americans staying there.
