Fond Memories
I traveled to Australia when I was seventeen and eighteen (had my birthday there, woot!). Traveling the coast, starting in Brisbane our group made it to Townsville and stumbled upon the hostel. Surprisingly I can still remember our experience there, twenty years later. We stayed there for a few weeks and had a blast. I remember having lunch at the pub next door to watch the Mike Tyson fight, ordering our food and before it arrived Tyson had knocked out Carl Williams in the first round. We spent our days playing billiards, swimming at the pool, riding bikes we rented from the hostel, and in general just chilling out. Most memorable event was when the people running the hostel at the time asked our group if we would be a part of their commercial, we were more than happy to participate. I would recommend this hostel to anyone. Hope your stay there is as fun as ours!
It is awesome!
I had only planned to stay here two nights -- I ended up staying three weeks! and still didn't want to leave! This place will make you feel right at home. The managers and staff go out of their way to make you happy. Very clean rooms and showers. Very close to shops. Would love to go back!
Very nice hostel with a good location. The facilities were good and the atmosphere was ok.
My first night in Oz (Australia) was spent here, so that alone gives me happy memories (a bed after two days travelling). I met some of the locals, all very friendly!! The staff were lovely and very helpful, which was great as I was alone and so far from home. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms were clean, and the kitchen was massive and clean. And the barman in the bar next door was so cute. I really could not fault this place!!!
A strange place; we saw barely any travellers there--it was all people who actually live there. The kitchen is huge, but very poorly equipped. The staff were very friendly, though! Oh, and there is a racket from the pub next door on weekends; they seem to have a resident woman singer who does the worst country renditions of pop and rock songs that you have ever heard!
One large hostel that can get a little noisy. The owners are helpful and the staff friendly. There were many older (35+) people staying here as if this was their permanent residence. The rooms are cheap, with their own fridge and great showers with hot water, but they lack atmosphere.
I loved this hostel. It's more like a motel than a backpackers, but it was friendly and the rooms were private and immaculate. Even though it was only a jumping-off point for Magnetic Island, I decided to a stay an extra couple of nights.
While the property is located close to the centre of Townsville, there was little else overly positive about the property. The staff were helpful and friendly, but reception was only open a few hours a day, closing in the middle of the day. There was no Wi-Fi in the rooms, just the common area and this was patchy at times. The hobs in the kitchen had only about half the rings working, and needed a lighter to light, which we didnt have. The bathrooms were clean but not in the best condition.
Not a safe environment for backpackers. The hostel is filled with long term residents who were very hostile throughout the evening they were arguing, shouting and fighting it was scary to be around. Reception was closed majority of the time so had to wait with all my stuff until 3pm to be able to check in. You had to rent stuff to cook and eat from reception which was closed most the time. Reception tried to over charge me. Hobs didnt work. Rooms like a feel like a prison. Light in the room didnt work. Ju
Possibly the worst hostel Ive ever stayed in, dont stay here, dirty cushions, the beds werent made and stains all over the mattresss. Didnt feel safe either. I also waited over and hour for someone to check me. Turns out he was only upstairs would not recommend at all!
Didn't have a security locker in my room. No ladder to get to the top bunk. Very untidy rooms. no where near your bed to charge your phone. 2 sockets and 4 beds doesn't add up?!? Very limited front reception hours during the day. showers where the only thing I could say was average in this place. would not stay again.
This is more of a residential block than a hostel. Its good if you get a private room and arent interested in meeting backpackers. Most people here are locals.
Clean, well located, friendly staff
Took a chance with this as it was for one night and were not fussy. But genuinely the other reviews for this place are bang on. Wouldnt recommend this place for solo travellers as it feels quite dangerous. Dont park your car outside the car park as there was broken glass everywhere from windows being smashed. The vibe was more like a boarding house and theres a lot of noise. Didnt feel comfortable using the kitchen. Double room didnt have any air-con when the ad said it would.
Been here twice, got the same room both times. That room was nice, the shower I used had excellent water pressure, my only downside was the walkways were quite tight when people sat outside their rooms and youd have to ask 2-3 people to get pass them to go to the toilet or showers
Liked: It was like a resort Didn't like: There weren't enough sunbenches
Liked: Staff really friendly and helpful! Dorms super clean and modern looking. Shuttle bus pickup from bus stop Didn't like: Quite far away from CBD and greyhound bus top, although they have a shuttle bus
Great value for money good location family operated business
Liked: ee Didn't like: ee
Liked: Clean big rooms Didn't like: The facility was badly taken care of. Strange clientel made us feel unsafe. Bad opening hours at the reception. No transfer.
Liked: Nothing really. Didn't like: The reception was barely open at all. Kitchen was dirty and not well equiped, air condition didn't work well. Beds were not good.
Liked: great place Didn't like: nothing
Liked: Large room, swimming pool Didn't like: Had to walk from the Greyhound station - about 30 mins in the hot sun. Reception has stupid hours, ridiculously expensive internet, noisy, had to 'hire' kitchen equipment from reception....not a good experience!
Liked: I like free breakfast they supply everyday, a fridge in every room, and the cheap price when booking a week. Didn't like: The breakfast supplied between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM is too late. 3 dollars per time for using laundry machine is too expensive.
Liked: It had a nice vibe to it, lots of different people staying here, kitchen was huge and roof top pool was nice. Didn't like: Location. I called and asked for directions on how to get there but the staff members only advice was to take a cab.
Room is spacious, however it is not really a hostel neither a resort at all... It seemed that people lived there as a rental house...
