Phanganist Hostel is one of the most famous hostels on Koh Phangan, because runs the biggest info site about the island. It is a very nice place to stay for individuals and groups, but less likely for families, because it is more of a party hostel. It is generally quiet, but there might be some noise from the party that is usually next to the swimming pool. There is no breakfast, water, coffee, or tea included in the stay.

The Location

Phanganist is in a quiet neighborhood with several restaurants and grocery stores in walking distance. Parking is available for free for your scooter, but with a car you will have to go a little bit further. The local bus will stop anywhere you want, just tell the driver that you are going to this hostel. You can also walk all the way down from the pier. It will take you about forty minutes. Prices around the island are higher than on the mainland, but it is everywhere like this in Thailand. There is a beach just about one hundred metres away from the hostel. It is not for swimming, but for relaxing it is ok.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Every room has a door lock and there are lockers inside of the room. Every dormitory can accommodate twelve people and each of the beds has a cover, creating a more private feeling. Rooms are clean and there are no bedbugs. Blankets are thin; a towel is not included (you can rent it, if you want). Internet works quite fine, but be reminded that you are staying on the island and the speed is generally slower and with more people staying in the hostel, the speed goes down. So, sometimes it is unusable. Every bed has a socket and there is an air conditioner in each of the rooms. Rooms are not open to outside, so you don't need any mosquito net here.

Showers are modern and very nice looking. There are hooks for your clothes, there is toilet paper, and the water is warm. There is no shampoo or soap included.

Common Spaces

There is an outside lounge with a swimming pool and a bar -- this is the place where all the people meet. There are several sofas and tables; in total, this place can accommodate about thirty people. Smoking is allowed in this lounge.
