BearPacker Patong Hostel is clean, staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and the best of all is the rooftop kitchen and swimming pool.
The Location
BearPacker Patong Hostel is on the main beach road of Patong, only a minute's walk to the beach, where you'll see the most spectacular sunsets. Of course, you can also view the sunset from the rooftop, while sipping something from their fridge. Shops, bars, and restaurants are all down the street and taxis are everywhere.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Since this is a bear-themed hostel, the levels in the elevator have been named -- first floor is Grizzly, second floor is Panda, and third floor is Polar. We're in a six-bed dorm with large wooden lockers in the corner; you need your own padlock, but our usual lock doesn't fit this locker, as it's too small so make sure you bring a large lock. Each bed has a privacy curtain, as well as electric sockets and a reading light. The lights are all dim, though, even with the main light of the bedroom switched on too. The air conditioner works great and we just have to remove the electricity card when we leave the room -- this switches off everything until we return. The beds have sturdy metal frames and the mattresses and pillows are super comfortable. The beds all have cozy duvets and we received a towel upon check-in.
There are four showers and three taps and an area with hair dryers. The showers are not very big, so we have to be very aware of water splash on our clean clothes hanging on hooks behind the door. They provide shampoo and soap dispensers in the shower. The taps at the hand basins are the best -- they are bear-shaped and you cannot help but smile every time you use them.
Common Spaces
The common area is on the very large, open plan, 5th floor. The kitchen can rustle up the tastiest food and there is complimentary coffee and tea available until midday. There are large wooden tables where guest can eat meals. Right next to the kitchen area is a lounge area with sofas, flat screen TV and a fridge with beers and water. On the far end of this room is a door way to the roof top swimming pool. There are also tables and chairs outside. The view is fantastic and the sunsets are even better. There are many electric sockets in this common area, as well as an air conditioner. The wifi is not the best. We keep having to use our data, as the hostel wifi is insufficient.
There is a laundry room where we can wash our clothes as well as dry them for a small fee.
Summary
The hostel arranges a minivan to take you to the airport and even allows you to keep your luggage in the secure room after check-out, until the minivan collects you. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hostel. It is beautiful, clean, and close to the beach. We very highly recommend them as great value for money.

• The minivan counter service is located in front of the arrival terminal. You can buy a one-way ticket for 180THB/person and it takes 1.50 hours to the hostel.
• By Taxi
• It is easy and convenient to take a taxi from the airport to Patong Beach. Taxi fare is approximately 800-900THB per car which can accommodate 3 passengers and luggage. From the airport, it takes 55 minutes to get to the hostel.
