The Nest Boutique Hostel

The Review

The Nest Boutique Hostel is a stylish budget accommodation option located just outside of Galway city centre.

The Location

The hostel is located in the suburb of Salthill, which is about a thirty-minute walk into the city centre where you will find most of the sights and attractions. Buses are also available from right outside the hostel that take you into the city centre and to the bus station where you can travel to other cities. The location in the suburbs means the hostel doesn't have much traffic noise and you can park for free in the hostel carpark or on the street out the front. Some cool pubs and restaurants are near the hostel (make sure you check out O'Connors) or you can head into the city centre for more options. You also have the Salthill Promenade just around the corner.

Rooms and Bathrooms
The Nest Boutique Hostel offers both private and dorm rooms in a range of different sizes. Dorms are either six or seven beds with both mixed and female-only options. The dorms have an edgy look, with exposed brick walls and wood finishes as well as iron rods used to create the bunk ladders. The look doesn't translate to functionality though, as the ladders are extremely painful to use and the bunks are positioned in a way that there is a giant gap between the bed and the wall so belongings are prone to fall off the bed. The dorms do have personal power points, reading lights, and small lockers. And each dorm has an area with mirrors and dressing tables for getting ready. Private rooms are simple but stylishly decorated and available in twin, double, and family room sizes. Some of the private rooms have an ensuite bathroom whilst others are shared.

Shared bathrooms are very scarce at this hostel with just one bathroom available for three rooms and no other options to use any other bathrooms on other floors due to door locks. This can cause a lot of discomfort and frustration when people are desperate for the toilet and someones taking a long shower and getting ready. Also you can hear everything going on in the bathroom from the dorms so it doesn't make for a peaceful night's sleep. Otherwise bathrooms are clean and functional with a large shower and shower gel provided.

Common Spaces

There is one main large common room at the hostel that incorporates reception, the dining area, and the kitchen. The common area has a warm but quirky design and the kitchen is large with multiple stoves and ovens so multiple people can use the facilities at the same time. If you want a more private place to hang out there is also a small library and study area, which is also where the laundry facility is. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel and each morning you can enjoy the included breakfast, which has a good range of fruit, cereals, and breads for a continental hostel breakfast. This hostel attracts more of a quieter and older crowd so it's not really suited to party people.

The Nest Boutique Hostel has a beautiful design with some great facilities, but the lack of bathrooms is not a great image for a "boutique hostel."
