City Capital Hostel is the afterthought addition to the City Resort hotel in Anuradhapura. You have the choice of ten-bed or female dorms, or double privates. They're en suite and fan cooled with Wi-Fi throughout. The hotel attached to the hostel has a restaurant. You can organise some tours through the reception.
The Location
Conveniently located just a five-minute walk from the bus station and ten minutes from the train station, you'll find many shops and restaurants close to this hostel.
The hostel is a little weird when trying to find it, as you're sent to the back of the property, then up some stairs following a sign saying "Capital Hostal" (which in itself is confusing as this is not it's online name), around the side of the building, back down some stairs, and to the reception desk for the City Resort hotel. In reality, you can cut this out and enter through the City Resort instead.
As the hostel is most definitely an afterthought, you may not receive the normal, friendly hostel greeting, but a polite hotel one instead. You can expect tax to be added to whatever price you booked at online.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The ten-bed dorm is spacious with a number of floor fans for keeping you cool. It is clean and the beds are thick, firm, and comfortable. The upper bunks have power sockets for each, but for the lowers you'll have to find a spare socket in the multi-plug to which the fans are connected. There are small lockers for your valuables.
The en suite bathroom is fine -- it's clean and there's enough space to dress, with a towel rail and the sink for your toiletries. The shower is cold, despite the water heater unit to which it is attached.
Common Spaces
There is a table and chairs outside the dorm rooms, plus additional nicer seating to the front of the hotel. Neither of these are the most natural social spaces, so you'd best hope you have some roommates you can start the socialising process with before moving outside. The atmosphere of the hostel is strange, owing to the hotel at the front. It's simply not built to be a hostel, but it does attract a backpacker crowd so if there's other guests during your stay, it'll be fine.
Summary
This is a very basic place, but it's comfortable. It's average and ok for a night.
