Thai Thai Hostel

The Review

Thai Thai Hostel is a great place to stay with all facilities you would want from a hostel. It's feels cozy and homey, and still manages to have a cool vibe to it. Meeting people here is easy and the relaxing rooftop area helps -- it's is great for chilling with a few beers during happy hour. A simple but nice breakfast is also included.

The Location

If you're arriving by train, the hostel is a thirty-minute walk from the station. Turn right as you exit the station, then turn left at the T junction. Walk for approximately ten minutes down this road. After you cross the river, take the fourth left. If you are arrive in the evening, this road will be full of stalls -- this road is home to Chiang Mai's nightly bazaar. Carry on straight for four hundred meters, walk past the Burger King on your right, and over the crossroad. Just after the crossroad, the road will split in two; take the road on the right. Walk for two hundred meters and then take the second left. The hostel will be immediately on your left.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorms are fitted with high-quality, comfy beds that come with curtains, plug sockets, and reading lights. There's also air conditioning and lockers large enough for a thirty-litre bag. Funnily, you'll find that the darkness of the rooms and the extra bed curtains mean that many people fail to wake up in the morning. It will be midday and you'll still be in complete darkness, which is great if you need a good night's sleep. There are plenty of clean showers and toilets, so queuing is never an issue, and these have constant hot water. Wi-Fi is strong throughout the building, although due to the amount of guests staying this can be slow at times.

Common Spaces

There are three main common areas, all of which offer something different. Downstairs, there is a dining area where you can chat with other travelers during breakfast. On the first floor, there's a very cozy lounge with a guitar and laptop that are free to use, book exchange, large TV, and very comfy seating. Then on the roof, there's a hammock and some seating where you can chill in the sun and cool breeze with a beer.

This is a comfortable, cozy hostel that still manages to have a vibrant feel about it. Organising tours is easy and you will definitely have other travelers at the hostel going on them with you. By looking at the map you may think it's a little far from the center, but the location is great, with cheap local food nearby -- including an amazing BBQ chicken place (turn left out of the hostel and walk for two hundred meters).
