Sport Hostel Reykjavík is a cheap and basic stay just outside of Reykjavík.
Sport Hostel Reykjavík is just outside of Reykjavík, about an hour's walk into the city centre. If you are walking, it can be a bit far, as it is not centrally located. So it is not really a recommended place unless you have rented a vehicle for your stay (they have free parking here). Sport Hostel Reykjavík is located in a shopping complex that provides for several restaurants and grocery stores nearby. In fact, you don't even have to step outside, as you can walk right into the shopping complex. They have a grocery store, bakery, take-away sushi, Indian restaurant, spa, and a massive gym with a pool. The location is good for that reason and it is centrally located enough for bus tours to pick you up from the hostel and take you on tours to see the geysers and ice caves.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Sport Hostel Reykjavík has five rooms -- one private room with two twin beds (that can be pushed together if desired), and four dorm rooms (with eight to ten beds). It is a small hostel, but the rooms aren't too crowded. There is space for individual lockers, hooks on which to hang your coats, and shoe racks on which to store your shoes. There is also a sink in the room. There are two bathrooms with showers and one regular bathroom, which seem to do the trick as they aren't too busy.
Upon walking into the hostel, you arrive into the common space. There are a couple of couches, a table with guidebooks, and a TV. There is also a very small kitchen. There are hot plates, kettles, toasters, and microwaves for cooking your own meals. There is also a fridge and some cupboards to store your food. It is a very small space and it can be awkward when trying to actually cook.
Sport Hostel Reykjavík is an ok stay -- nothing special, but not necessarily uncomfortable either. The front desk is always empty and there is never a staff member in sight, but the place somehow still manages to stay clean. We're sure there are better locations that this one, but the price is good for sure!
