Dunsborough Beachouse Reviews

Surf's up! HI - YHA Dunsborough Beachouse Hostel houses about sixty guests. It's a bit off but well worth the visit. Only a hundred metres from the beach, this place is a hidden gem!

The Location

The hostel is located 2.5 kilometers from Dunsborough center. It has a big parking area and it caters mostly for backpackers on wheels or on a tour. There is a TrasWA stop two hundred meters from the hostel in Quindalup (only on request), but the hostel personnel will pick you up from Dunsborough center if you give them a call. If you don't have a car, you can hire a bike to get around while staying at The Beachouse. Dunsborough town center has everything you might need, but it's twenty-five-minute walk away from the hostel. There's a selection of shops, restaurants, cafes, and other services in town.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The Dunsborough Beachouse offers a couple of single/double/twin/family rooms but most of the accommodation is either four- or six-bed dorms. The dorms are an ok size but have no lockers, although linen and doonas are free of charge. The insulation isn't very good, which makes the dorms very cold -- especially in the winter -- and noisy. There are six toilets and six showers and they are all very clean.

Common Spaces

This hostel has an immaculately clean kitchen, which is also well-equipped. There's a joint living room/dining area, separate TV room, internet facilities, laundry, and an outside sitting area. In the living room there is a pool table, sofas, and books. The whole place has a cozy and nice atmosphere.

You can see the sea from the outside sitting area and twice a week (Thursday and Saturday evenings), the hostel organises a cheap BBQ night. This provides an excellent opportunity to get to know fellow travelers. There's also "The Shed" further away from the hostel. It's basically made out of corrugated iron, surfboards, and a couple of garden chairs. The Shed is topped off with sound system and party lights -- an ideal place to sit back and watch the sun go down.

Summary

YHA Dunsborough Beachouse is a nice little place with a lot of character. It's the small things that make it different -- you can pick fresh herbs from the garden, sit in the Shed admiring the views, or walk across the backyard to go for a morning swim. It's perfect!

Really friendly and comfortable

What can i say, that already hasn't been said. Even as an older traveler, we really enjoyed being here. Andy, Dave, and the rest of the crew are friendly, go out of their way to help out. one of the best places we have stayed in. The beach is stunning too, we really liked Dunsborough, and would come back here again for the scenery, lifestyle, and nice bunch of people.

Very good hostel -- friendly, close to the sea, very good ambiance (nice people from other countries to meet). kitchen and bathroom are cleaned every day (hot water (really hot!) every time). Drying machine, washing machine available. very good location, a lot of things to do close to dunsborough. The best backpacker i've tried!

This is a great hostel! I have been here every year for the last five years. Adrian has moved on now but the new manager Andy is really cool, too. They have done loads of work around the place and made it a lot "prettier" and more comfortable....and it was great before. This is one place definitely NOT to miss.

I've stayed at Three Pines a few times over the years. For me it's an essential stop-over on a Southwest adventure. Adrian has always been cool. Wait till you look out the window and stare into the turquoise sea...only the last fifth of your vision will be blue at the right time of year. Eagle Bay and Meelup Bay are delicious for snorkeling. The coastline is breathtaking. Meelup Bay has got the nicest public toilets I've seen in Australia...think I'm crazy?

Check them out when you go snorkeling. I'm crazy, but I'm not stupid.

P.S. Three Pines has the cleanest kitchen I've seen!!
